How much does the surgery cost in Mexico?

Recommended Posts

I read a few people say that they went to Mexico to have the surgery done. I will have to pay at least $2,000 out of pocket for insurance preminum payment here in the U.S. and then you never know I may still be denied. I will have to see my doc for a year straight and jump though alot more hoops here than probably down there. Does anyone have any idea the cost to have it done in Mexico?:)

the prices vary from dr. to dr. the going rate seems to be in the 6500-9000 dollar range. check the prices by calling. i went to dr. huacuz. the price was the deciding factor. i think dr. kuri and dr. huacuaz in Tijuana are the 2 top lapband doctors. i really think you would find dr. huacuz to be excellent. i felt safe with him. i lost 80 lbs and have no problems except a few times acid reflux. i get my fills done there too. call around and ask questions. tijuana is actually pretty cool. the people are so nice. i enjoyed the hotel . very nice. my price for the band included everything. the bonus was the great staff and service i recieved. good luck. hope you can work it out . my insurance would not cover mine so i chose to go to mexico. i was a bit nervous. i just went for it. i had worked out for a year with a trainer. tried every diet. i needed the lap band. thank god for the band.

I too am being banded by Dr. Ortiz. I went to the clinic to talk to him and his staff and they were wonderful and gave me a tour and answered all my questions. Easy trip for me because I live just north of San Diego but when I was there I met people that flew in from all over the country. Top notch facility. $8500

I'm using Dr. Ortiz on Jan 29, anyone else going about that time? Would love the company. 8500 is all, not much compared to the states.

My sister had her lapband done in TJ...I think it was bariatric surgery center...something like that...she paid roughly $7k for hers and then has her fills done in San Antonio.

Heh... this thread is 2.5 years old. I'll bet the OP found a surgeon by now. ;o)))))

Just in case anyone else reads this old thread- it seems the price has remained stable in Mexico. It was 7k for me 2 years ago but now it's 6500.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
