I've been taking 10,000 MG of Biotin for quite a few weeks now and am using hair rejuvinating Shampoo to rev myself up for my upcoming surgery on Feb 11th. I have bookmarked wig web sites and bought Xfusion for some coverup if needed (paranoia much??)

I am SO scared of Hair loss. My hair is already on the thinner side to begin with. So my questions are these...

Is hair loss solely due to lack of Protein and other Vitamins?

A shock to the system from surgery?

Does EVERYONE experience hair loss?

Could I possibly be spared??

I realize there are a lot of other things I should worry about other than my own vanity but I can't help it. :(

I have been worried about this as well, but do not have any great answers. Would be interested in hearing some real facts around what causes Hair loss. I can say that did experience a lot of hair loss around my 2 c-sections when I had my kids. I attributed it to the hormones, but have seen learned that just having surgery in general can cause it. Would be interesting if there was something I could do to be proactive. That being said, I was no where near needing a wig. And it all evened out around 4-6 months.

they say its a shock to your system. I would think it would be right away then..not 3 months down the road..funny thing.. I was having some Hair loss before surgery and a few months before that.. not sure why.. so 2 weeks before my surgery I started taking biotin.. and after a couple of weeks.. low and behold.. my hair stopped falling out..and became softer.. go figure.. maybe mine wont fall out.. maybe it will.. most say it will... but there are that select few that it doesnt happen to.. maybe I wasnt getting all my vitamins.. but im hoping because of this reverse thing that happened with me..that maybe it wont.. I will have to keep people posted. good luck.

IF you experience Hair loss, its unlikely that it will be noticeable to anyone but you

I experienced major hair loss starting at month 5 and it continues no matter what I do

So ready for it to stop

I have already chopped all of my long thick hair off because its now so thin and dry.

Don't mean to pry but did you keep up with your Vitamins and Protein? This girl I work with had gastric bypass and experienced terrible Hair loss and I can really tell. I'm pretty sure she didn't keep up with her Vitamins and Protein though.

I guess it is common enough so I should just accept that it will happen. I'm still scared though. :(

I would have to say the major cause of Hair loss is going to go with hormone changes. I lost a ton of hair while pregnant and after the baby was born. When you lose weight your hormones got through many changes and during this time you will experience hair loss. Vitamins will also cause it too but I think the main Vitamin to focus on is your B12. As we age this is a vitamin that we lack also just not with WLS so even the elderly need B12 and it will stop hair loss and promote growth. So please make sure you have a good liquid B12 complex. Liquid is better than dots that dissolve under your tongue.

I had it from month four till six...it has finally slowed. Clogged my vacuum with all the hair! Watched my Protein, took Vitamins, Biotin and it still happened.

Wow, I don't look forward to that. But, I guess i'll take a few months of hair loss if that means getting this weight off!!!

Anyone else have thin hair before and go through the Hair loss? Was it real noticeable?

Hi!

I have not been sleeved yet, but I have lost a lot of weight before to the point that my hair was falling out. At that time, I took the theraputic dose lf Biotin (from GNC) and that helped A LOT. My surgery is on Feb. 11 and I already started taking it. Also, I read on here that Visical was very good.

Also, hairloss is also triggered by stress. The more you stress, the more hair will fall out. Try not to think about it. For every thought of hairloss I have, I tell myself "I declare my hair will remain healthy as my body becomes healthy"

Hope this helps!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
