Recommended Posts

Hi April 06 bandsters. I thought I would post a new thread to see how everyone is doing 6 months post op. I don't know about you all, but it feels like a lifetime ago that I went through the procedure. I see everyones numbers in our weight tracker post, and it looks like everyone is pluggin along, but I want to hear about how people are doing, struggles, tips, challenges, accoplishments, etc.

Hi,

I usually just post on the local Canada site, but I thought I would share my experiences to date. I was banded April 4th, 2006 in Montreal. It was a 1 1/2 in the process from beginning request date to surgery, so I was really ready... but it was worth it.

It has been challenging.... really, but so far so good. In fact I would say that it has gone better than I expected. I have had 1 fill so far, and willmost likely have another one in 2 weeks.

What has been easy: believing that (finally I can do this), support from my amazing (did I say amazing DH), buying new clothes !!!!, eating less

What has been hard: stopping eating at times, not knowing to share or not to share about the banding, getting exercising, getting used to feeling like this about me!!!

Well... myvticker tells the story.

I was banded April 26th. So far I haven't had great success but I'm hoping for that to change soon. I have had 2 fills and I only recently had my 2nd fill. I also had port revision and I'm recouperating from that. It was last Thursday. My doc is a bit stingy with the fills and I haven't hit good restriction yet, I'm hoping that with this 2nd fill I will get some better restriction. And as soon as I'm healed I'm gonna hit the gym again.

I am so happy, I bought an 18 in jeans Saturday! I also bought a 16 in some other pants to look foward to. I have stopped losing weight like I was but I am now exercising everyday and trying to help it along.

My goal was to be 180 on the last weekend of April 2007. (Big Event)

It's not just weight, I guess I want to wear about a size 12 or 14. I will get there, I just have to try harder. But I am very happy.

I'm still here, still alive, still fighting myself but not that hard. Everything is good and nothing adverse to report...at this point in the early stages.

Things are going well at this point. My doc believes in agressive fills and my band is almost filled to capacity. I just have to remember to be careful when I eat. I am so excited that I can fit into a size that I wore in high school. I still have a bit to go, but I know I can do it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
