Sleeve holds too much food

Recommended Posts

I'm gonna try a poached egg tomorrow morning. Do u think 2 eggs is too much?

Yes. Don't waste an egg. If you're still hungry make another one, but you won't be. Let us know how it goes.

I am the exact same way! I was sleeved on 1/21/3. I can eat a whole yogurt, pudding, and egg... I get all my Fluid no problem. I had a 2 pound weight gain in the past 2 days only lost 8 pounds since surgery. Very frustrated!!

I will try that. My nutritionist said about a half a cup is about right at my stage so I will try that. I just hate being so hungry all the time!!!

Hard to believe that your NUT said you can eat 4 ounces. I am just over 5 months and still measure of 2 ounces of Protein sometimes I have three. Eating too much is not good for many reasons but measuring food also teaches you how to eat right. Slow down, measure your food and "listen" to what your tummy is telling you.

I had my surgery on Oct 18. At times I can eat two eggs, sometimes not. My weight loss had been pretty good though so don't get to hung up on comparing to others.... That stressed me at first. There are too many individual factors that are involved but the biggest thing is that it WILL work, in the time that is right for your body. Just try to do your best to follow Dr's orders and you will be a success!

I just wish I would get that full feeling like others get. I think that would help me a lot. The only way I can tell when I should stop eating is when I start to feel food kinda creep up in my throat a little. Its not uncomfortable though its just I guess my stomach telling me that its full. I'm praying things get better....

You are probably still numb. I am 8 weeks out and how much I can eat seems to differ depending on food, time of day, the alignment of the stars...blah blah blah.

Since you say you are always hungry what may help is to measure out your food and eat more often. So instead of eating 8oz of Beans at once split it into two meals, 2 hours apart. My doctor told me to try to limit self to 2 oz of Protein at a time but to eat 6 times a day. Now that I am back at work I don't have time to eat 6 times a day but I do notice I seem to to better if I try and eat less more often.

You will feel that full feeling in a few more weeks.... Mine didn't start really till month two ish. What you are reading is right, there is a lack of feeling that returns after healing.... My big clue was hiccups... I still get them when it's time to stop.... Lol

Funny, I also get the hiccups when it's time to stop. I also start to sneeze if I go beyond that. Amazing how things work now.

It is funny isn't it. And if I eat too much my mouth suddenly over salivate which means I'm going to be ill. I've heard of people's noses running too, so there are so many signs...lol

I started to get the full feeling after starting on solids. It used to be that little burps were my signal that I should stop ( and there were many times when I did not stop and slimed or got pain). However, I learned over the months that even stopping at the burps is too late. I now get a feeling or sigh which is a sense of satisfying hunger. This is the true signal to develop a sense for, but it did take me months of trial and error before honing in on it. Best of luck!

Angelamarie, except for the fact that I was sleeved on 1/23, it could have been me writing your posts. :) I have been sooo hungry.

I can't express how much I appreciate Jenny and the others who have responded to this discussion.....you have most likely saved my sanity. I was beginning to wonder if I had made the biggest mistake of my life.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
