A few questions? ( just had surgery on 1/28)

Recommended Posts

Q1. I had my surgery on jan 28@12:30 pm. I was home the next day by 11am, is this normal? Also there was no dye test to check for leaks, don't all doctors do this for this type of surgery?

Q2. As far as I can tell everything seems to be ok, I was on Clear liquids for 2 days, now I am on full liquids for 10 days, then soft foods for 21 days, the back to solid foods. I guess my question is, while I am on liquids I can't really tell if I am full or not, will that change or am I doing what I should and not pushing it to far?

Q3. I seem to get random pains or cramps that only last for 1-3sec then end, is that normal? Is it still gas?

Thank you everyone who replies!

Q2: you'll feel more restriction as you move from liquids to soft and from soft to solids. Especially with liquids and for hydration reasons, drink as much as you comfortably can

My surgeon does a scope after surgery before he closes up to check for leaks. It is probably gas, do you use the gas x strips?

I was sleeved on jan 24, my dr checked for leaks right after my surgery . Only way I knew I was urinating blue green. I was also discharged the next day as well. I definitely get the full feeling and if I drink too fast ( have to get used to sipping) it hurts going down.

About a day after I had to drink a barium (?) drink and get flouroscoped. If I can be honest it seems a little fishy if they're not checking their work...

That's what I thought also, but it's a major hospital near where I live, and they have an entire group who do nothing but weight loss surgeries.

Q1: My surgeon checked for leaks while I was still in surgery. My surgical center pioneered VSG as an outpatient procedure. I was supposed to go home the same day, but I had a slight complication (not VSG related) that made them keep me overnight. I was discharged the next morning.

Q2: You'll feel full when you start eating purees and soft foods.

Q3: Sound like gas pains to me!

more than likely its gas.. you will feel a difference when you go to full liquids.. and can have like the mushy stuff like pudding..and then will be amazed how little you can eat. plus make sure you are sipping and not taking too big of drinks.. but it will all get better for sure.. good things to come.. totally.. best of luck.. keep us informed of your progress.

Gas x Strips, that melt in ur mouth....I did not have a dye test, he checked while still in surgery. I am on all liquides for 5 weeks.....my dr, think if you move to musshy or regular food to soon, you can streatch you tummy so he wants it pretty much healed beore one to things other than liquid....

Q3: I was sleeved 1/29 and GasX Strips were a lifesaver! They come in a small box and dissolve on the toungue. All drug stores carry them as well as Wal-mart, etc.

My doc does a leak test in the Operating room before closing, and then the leak test the following day as well.

I was hungry until I went on soft solids - the liquids just go right through so you're not really "full".

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
