Deedee, wow I hope I'm as lucky as you in recovery. There are so many extremes when it comes to recovery, in both directions!! Just the thought of being 50 lbs lighter makes me feel better physically!! I'm 5'6" and 269lbs. Never have I been small, I've always been the big girl in the crowd. So far the support from friends and colleagues has been great. My biggest hurdle in my mind is telling my mom. She knows I have always had challenges with my weight but I have a feeling she's going to say I'm taking the easy way out and why don't I just diet (again and again). But then again she might surprise me and be supportive. Errr it's just one thing that keeps running through my head. Anyway, I'm excited to start this new journey with my husband and have a healthier and much more active life!! Want to be here when my 2 year old is older!!

I wish you an excellent recovery. Just follow your dr.'s orders to the T & you should be okay. As far as being 50 lbs lighter it really is amazing. As you can see by my ticker in my signature I started out at a much higher weight & still have a lot left to go. Somewhere on this board I wrote a post about my perspective changing. I was visiting with my family & found out that my 7 year old nephew is now 46 lbs. I picked him up & was shocked at how much 46 lbs. weighs! Although I still have a long way to go, I am already helping my body a great deal with the weight that is gone already. I don't even know how I've been able to function at such a high weight. I would caution you, though, to not compare yourself to others. Most people would say "54 lbs. in 2 months is awesome", but I found myself looking at other peoples success stories here and they have lost 70 lbs or more in the same amount of time. Our journeys are as unique as our bodies. If you ever feel that you are getting discouraged please contact me. My family was not supportive of my decision, but I am lucky that my boyfriend who I live with has been wonderfully supportive. It's all about support & perspective. This WILL work & you will be happier & healthier. That is a wonderful feeling.

I don't see your ticker Deedee. I'm still learning how to navigate this site.

Just look at the very bottom of my post. There's any area that is like a signature line. It shows that I was sleeved on 11/27. Below that is like a little picture of a woman running. On there is shows my starting & current weight & BMI. I haven't updated it yet this week, because my "official" weigh in day is Tuesday.

Awesome! I love Tristate & was also sleeved by Dr. Weiss. I was so desperate that I was going to do bypass. 2 months before my surgery he let me know that my insurance now covered the sleeve & he thought it would be better for me. I think that he & the team at Tristate are awesome. I hope that your surgery & healing go as well as mine did! :) Keep me updated & feel free to message me. Who knows. Maybe some day we might be at the same support group! I was sleeved on November 27th. So, if you have any questions along the way I would be happy to help if I can. Best of luck to you.

Deedee, thank you so much for your kind words! I frequently go to the Tuesday 10:30 support group (will be there this Tuesday) and I have my pre-op appointment this Tuesday after group. I'm going through this journey with my best friend and she is also getting sleeved on the same day & same hospital as me with Dr. Weiss!

Had my sleeve done on Monday (2/11) by Dr. Weiss at Good Sam in Suffern and came home yesterday. I feel good! No pain, just sore. Not hungry, taking my sips every 5 minutes (actually set my phone alarm!) so I make sure to get in an ounce every 20 minutes. Can feel lots of gas bubbles popping away. Tired, though -- I know that is to be expected. Looking forward to Saturday when I can switch over to Protein drinks! Good Sam hospital was awesome -- staff was very caring and knowledgeable! So my journey begins :) -- Jessica

I took a shower this morning... heavenly... I can only have Clear liquids til Saturday (Crystal light, Diet Snapple, etc), then on to Protein Drinks. I just set my phone alarm, and kept hitting the snooze (which goes off every 5 minutes) and I take a sip. I got a bunch of medicine cups from the nurse at the hospital and It helps me keep track of how much I am drinking. It is a process... I got a few different Protein drinks to choose from, so I can keep things varied for the 2 weeks of protein drinks. I got powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup (21 grams protein), EAS carb control shakes, and some others that are in the cabinet at the moment. good luck to you!!!

Jessica and Gin, wow so happy for you both!!!! How is it going now that your almost a week out?! Hope it's going really well for both of you! Tell me your ups and downs this first week and like what's working for you and what's not working.

This past Friday I had all my preop apts with nutritionist, psych, cardiologist and pulmonologist. So now it's the waiting game for the insurance approval. I hope it comes quick because I would really like to have my sleeve done in March, but I know that's asking a lot!

Hope all is well!!!

Kim

Kim

Surgery for me went well, and I was walking to the bathroom that day. My doc left in a drain for a week for precautionary measures. I'm still very sore. Showering is very difficult. It's also hard to remember to sip every 5 min. Honestly the pain is minimal but it is just uncomfortable. Hope all goes well for you.

Hey guys, just wondering how you guys are feeling? Any issues? Anything you would have changed?

I'm still waiting to hear from my insurance company. My husband was approved yesterday, he's having a lap band. He's afraid of the whole permanently missing 1/2 his stomach.

Velveteen,

That's awesome you guys are going to have each other to support one another..My husband has been dieting with me..He has lost over 20lbs (without surgery  ). He will be by my side at the gym when we both finally get over bronchitus. I guess we like to share everything.

I'm almost 6 weeks out and I'm feeling great. I just eat till I'm satisfied and then quit. The hardest part for me is not being able to drink while I'm eating. Prior to surgery I could drink at least 3 cups of Water while eating dinner.

Where are you from? I'm from Rockland County. Good Luck!!

Hey Gin, wow 6 weeks out! How awesome do you feel?!! I can only imagine! That's cool that your husband is going through the motions with you too. Guys always lose it faster, damn them!! Unfortunately we wont be able to do a gym because we have a 2 yr old at home so we have been eyeing up some bowflex home gyms that we can put in our game room to work out on while our little one can have her fill of Disney Jr!!

So at 6 weeks out how much have you lost? And are you on normal foods now or still soft stuff? Have you run into any problems of any sort? Both my husband and I have started or at least trying to make some changes like forcing ourselves to chew more and not drink with meals. Sounds easy but it's really hard, lol.

I'm in the Hamlet of Wallkill in Ulster County. So great to have others to bounce things off of and go through this with!!

I feel amazing..I have days where I am reminded that I had surgery 6 weeks ago..I've lost 32.4 lbs...we actually joined Planet Fitness...20 bucks a month and we both get to go, cheapest gym around Rockland..If and when you have surgery and ever need someone contact me I can help. I'm on normal food. I try not to deprive myself of food, this evening I had half a sausage link (normal size) and 2 piergoes (sp?). Normally we have a salad but I don't have the starch. I'm not a morning person so I sleep through Breakfast, which is hard because Im hungry around 10pm since technically that would be MY dinner time. 've just ran out and gotten a lot of 100 calorie Snacks so when I sub I can throw it in my purse and eat that and I know exactly how much I eat. The chewing I know I'm really bad with, I haven't gotten sick or anything from it YET and I hope not I try when I think about it.

Taking pills is hard, currently I'm battling bronchitus and having to take my prednisone and levaquin on top of my supplements is HARD. My Vitamin and Calcium are HUGE and to be quite honest sometimes I dont take them all.. I do make sure to take my hair, nails and skin supplement. I'm so scared of losing my hair, thats my main concern (how shallow right?)

You are so luck to have a little girl. That is the reason I had surgery, I want kids and at 30 I'm not getting any younger. If you don't mind me asking how old are you? PM if its easier..just thought of that LOL

I am from Mt Kisco and not too far from everyone. There seem to be so many people getting this.

I am having it done at Westchester Medical center and tehy said they do almost 500 sleeves a year, WOW.

I am still in the pre-op stage and doing the tests and consults

I can not wait until it's done or at least have a surgery date.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
