Little over six months after surgery

Recommended Posts

When will my hair stop falling out? Handfuls and handfuls...I was dealing with it ok but I thought it was supposed to stop at around 6 months. I'm past that and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. I'm getting depressed! I'm taking all my Vitamins, special shampoos...everything I know. My nurse practitioner gave me the phone number of a dermatologist that specializes in female Hair loss, but her website talks about how her medicines "may cause liver damage." When can I expect it to stop falling out and start growing back?

I have been taking Biotin 5000mg 2 times a day - I am 7 months post opt as of the 4th. My hair is still coming out but not as much as it was in the 4th and 5th month.

Yep, how is your Protein? You can take Vitamins, Biotin, etc but if your protein isn't where it needs to be you will have the Hair loss. :(

I'm grateful that I'm not experiencing hair loss...but I am getting in at least 50-60 grams of Protein daily...

I have heard of Hair loss lasting until 9 months. Mine is still falling out, one hair at a time at 7 months. It was much worst month 3-6.

Thanks everyone. I guess I just have to be patient. I'm healthier than I was, even if my hair is falling out! I was afraid I'd lose it all, so it's good to know it will stop...one day! I just ordered some Isopure to help me get in all my Protein. I haven't tried them, so I'm hoping I like them. I struggle getting in all my protein bc I get so full! Thanks again! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
