Leak?

So I saw the nephrologist today.

So it seems that I am meant to bare this out at home without help.

She doesn't seem to know what type of stones I have. She said I have to pass one to know.

My UA results are weird she says. My sodium and Calcium are low. Uric acid and some other things are high. I don't have the list with me. She said something is defiantly going on, but things aren't clear. She says my body is going through crazy and amazing things right now because of surgery.

I am starting two medication to help me maybe the dissolve the stones. I take these for a year.

All this tissue I pee out is renal tissue. So what These stones are damaging my kidneys while I wait for them to pass. Wonderful?! Yes it's painful!!

She also said my body is grabbing on to anything it can go form stones and I am VERY SLOW at passing stones. YAY LUCKY ME!!

It's not safe for me to have more CT scans, X-rays or the alike. So we will do ultrasounds from now on or until next year!

Oh yes keep peeing in the strainer!!

Make sure I am cautious that the kidney is getting swollen from too much urine.

Sorry if you since upset. I accept that I have to do this alone, but somehow in my mind I deserved a break. **shrugs** I guess not. I have been through a lot and I want to be better.

Knowing that I have impending severe pain is a hard thought to process. I don't know when it will strike and this is an unbearable thought. Feels like always waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Sounds like I have to adjust to a new life in living with this pain. Seems unfair!!!

I am generally mellow and level headed, but I am so tired if all this medical bologna. I want to be done with it all; feel like running away from it. I guess I am paying the price for being a chunky monkey.

I'm not sure how it went..my labs came back and i have hyperparathyroid? It's seems to be one thing or another these days (nothing like what you are going through though)

It sounds like your appointments are nothing but frustration!

Don't suppose you consider just going to a urologist? Don't get mad!!

As far as my thing I don't know, the doc said he's never seen numbers this high before (great huh)

So it looks like they are going to be taking some glands out... They are doing a scan soon to see what's going on...

It can cause extreme exhaustion, depression AND kidney stones!!

My word!! You do not need or want (I am sure) exhaustion, depression or kidney stones!!! I hope you get results and treatment that works for you. I am very sorry to hear this. When do you have the scan? Yeah, how comforting to know he's never seen such high numbers!! Hang in there. Does your hubby have an reassuring words for you?

Today's appointment was hard to hear. I can accept this, but it's wearing me down. It's getting to be just too much. When does this hell stop? It's so frustrating for me. I imagined being in a healthy place by now, and I have yet to taste the fruits of my labor. I see my PCP tomorrow and we will talk about this. I am ready to just jump ship and leave all this medical garbage behind.

When you go tomorrow ask about the urologist Thing? I know that nephrologist doesn't do "surgical" interventions so I wonder if an urologist might have a different plan?

As far as the thyroid thing they are scheduling me tomorrow and will let me know when. It's a good thing though because between you and me.. I've been feeling like **** lately. I really want to sleep all the time.

Oh and my husband is a little worried about the whys of this like why now? And why did they check such an obscure thing.. In normal blood tests. But it's not his field of expertise (not to many thyroids showing up in the ER)

Well easy or not. It does not sound like fun and I wish you did not have to endure such circumstances. My situation is lame, but that doesn't discount yours!!! Hang in there!!

My hubby has gone to every single appointment with me, everyday of infusion service, and stayed every night in the hospital with me. He would leave for a meal when my Mom & Dad came. He is a very amazing partner. I am very lucky to have such am amazing spouse. ????

We are very lucky that his employer is so flexible. He was and is still able to continue to support me and go to all these appointments.

He feels bummed like I do. I does not like to see me endure all this pain. He can't wait until I feel better. However he is very supportive and engaging. He asks lots of questions and agree's we should talk to my pcp tomorrow. I didn't feel like talking about things too much tonight, so we will talk more about this kidney stuff tomorrow.

He is always a step ahead of me. Researching and reading about what I am going through. He has worked to advocate for me. He also has a great sense of humor. He has a sense of humor like no other. He has found hilarious songs and videos of kidney stones and he shows me. We get a good laugh.

This situation, as lame as it has been, has only brought us closer. I am proud of this because I know that wls and all these complications I have endured can be hard on a marriage. Our marriage is still young, but I feel that our bond is strong.

I am hoping that soon I can find some peace with this bummer deal!!! I made it through vaginal delivery. I can pass these stones too right!? Haha. Who knows!!!

Laura, I'm very sorry to hear about your parathyroid diagnosis. sending you positive thoughts. I'm not sure where you live, but Cleveland Clinic has a specialty in treating PTH issues if you need a second opinion, etc.

Thank you. I wish I were better too!! Sounds like your hubby went through a terrible ordeal with his kidneys. Is he better nowadays? Develope any more stones? There has to be an end in sights for mine. After these stones are out I should be on my way to living freely. Not tied down by so much medical junk.

I had my 3 month physical therapy appointment. I have to get approved through the cardiologist to exercise. Last time he said walking is ok to do and lifting 3lbs. So I will call the cardiologist and get things approved hopefully. I was assigned four exercises' date=' and I can do them only if approved. So fingers crossed.

He had a real awful time. He is an air traffic controller, and he couldn't take any pain meds. They didn't seem to move much when he was at work, so that wasn't a problem, but at night they seemed to hurt him so bad. You can't have any narcotics in your blood in air traffic control. It was so hard to watch him suffer. When they did the stint, he was in so much pain. Then when they went in to remove them and they didn't get them, he woke up from the anesthesia and was destroyed. In was so frustrated with his urologist because I felt like he was just like "take another pain pill and wait." He spoke very broken English and had little bedside manner.

I worked at a medical malpractice insurance co. at the time. The doctor was one of our insureds. I went in to the president one day and told him what was going on. I say there and bawled my eyes out. My husband is so tough and he was crying out for the pain on a regular basis. The president told me to wear something that identified myself with the insurance company at my husband's appointment that afternoon. He said if I didn't feel better, he would call the dr. and talk to him. So I wore a coat with the insurance company name on it. The dr. came in and told us how my husband was going to have to wait it out and he also needed to start an antibiotic therapy because of how much he was bleeding. That was to be the second round of antibiotics to the tune of $170. All of a sudden he noticed my coat. He said "you work for that insurance company?" I replied "yes sir." He asked me what I did for them. I told him I was a business analyst and in oversaw the software program that tacked his claims and rated his policies. His personality changed and he was super nice. He even managed to find a free sample of the antibiotic. In that visit we demanded lithotripsy. A lot of places use it as a last resort, because it costs so much to do it. A lot of hospitals don't have their own unit so they share with other hospitals. Ours came on Tuesdays. Out insurance was billed $10k for one treatment.

I saw your latest update. I can imagine it is discouraging..,just not seeing some kind of light at the end of the tunnel. I will keep praying for you, and I hope everyday is a little easier than the one before!

What caused the leak? Do you know? I have surgery this month and now that I have read this I am really scared. Did they do a leak test before you were released to go home? How many days after the surgery did you have the leak? What were your symptoms that keyed you in to the possibility of a leak? Sorry for so many questions. Thanks!

I had a leak. They did 2 leak tests before closing me up but none before releasing me and my doctor told me its because theyre pointless so soon post op due to the swollen tissue. I was unsure of this reasoning until I was admitted into the hospital a second time. I went to the ER twice with chest pains. The first time we all thought it was a flare up of costochondritis because I've had it before and it goes hand in hand with fibromyalgia (which I have.) The pain was almost identical until my second ER trip. It hurt to breathe, no pain medication or hot/cold compresses helped and I started vomiting. Gagging happened constantly for me post op. But the number one symptom NEVER showed for me. I NEVER spiked a fever!

My second ER trip they did a CT scan and found a small abscess and admitted me. The next morning I had exploratory surgery where they tested for a leak with air, Water, and dye. No leak was found. They put in a drain and an NG tube. Hooked me up to fluids and TPN, and I was strict NPO. A fee days later they did an endoscopy and it didn't a leak. After just over a week (about 3 weeks after surgery) they did a barium swallow and that was the first time the leak was visible. Due to the swelling, even with surgery so soon after the initial operation it couldn't be seen. I was in the hospital for a month. 27ish days of which I was strict NPO (not even water or ice chips.)

My abscess tested positive for hemocratic strep and later I tested positive for MRSA.

You'll know if you have a leak. Its not a pain you can ignore.

I'm grateful my suture line had a month to heal without anything in my stomach to digest, but it's caused my sleeve to relax sooner than most. I can eat way more than 4oz. But I'll take it It's made me a slow loser, and because of that I haven't lost any hair yet either I've never slimed, dumped, or over indulged. I've been sick when eating ground beef, I'm just intolerant to it for now.

My leak was very close to the esophagus/ top of y stomach, and it was 1 suture that had slipped. My surgeons said it was no fault of my own. Either a shotty staple or a tear from the intense esophageal spasms I had post op.

Don't worry darlin' you'll know if you're leaking. And this early on, dont hesitate to call or see your surgeon. Better safe than sorry. But as long as you follow your diet, measure diligently, and don't over do it on exercise or daily activity you should be fine!

Hi all!!

What a relief today!! I talked to my PCP and she thinks I should see a urologist for a second opinion!! so I am!! she believes my chills and night sweats are from these kidney stones.

Kidney hurts today and my esophagus has spasms!! But my doctor is amazing and met all of my needs and is SO helpful. I feel a sense of relief and happy for the positive light she shed on everything!!!

I should be able to get my esophageal spasms, Constipation and kidneys at a tolerable point. Yay!! I feel so excited and thankful for this.
