I guess what I am saying is. If offered I would do it, because I don't want to live in pain or on medicine. I have been through enough and suffered too much.

But do I go to the ER and ask for surgery to remove the stones? Seems kind of different.

I think this is because the first time I saw her I told her I had been though a lot and wasn't interested unless absolutely needed. It's true' date=' I am not interested in going through another surgery. I feel like with these stones i either endure the pain at home or have another surgery.

It's like being stuck between a rock and a hard place. Neither option is great. Other then stating I don't want surgery. I was not offered surgery to deny it.

This pain has made me reconsider, but surgery hasn't been offered to me. She told my hubby that I may need surgery, but wanted to do the urine tests first to see what kind of stones I have. Sounds like I need to bring it up. My PCP said they may need removed as well.

It's all overwhelming and confusing. I just know I need this part of my life to be done a s over with.

Sannah,

You have endured so much! I guess where I get concerned is the fact that you are taking some really strong meds, I mean enough to knock out a horse and still barely managing the pain.

To me that just indicates that it might be time to at least call tomorrow and talk about other options. My intent is not to add to your worry!

Hell I'm just some strange lady on the other end of the computer :) but I have run this past my husband and well if its not better soon look at plan B.

I guess I don't understand the UA test either were they stones in it that they are looking at?

Most definitely that's why I back tracked a bit about the ER! I get it :)

if it were me I'd suffer one more night and call tomorrow..

I don't get the UA either. The dr said after the UA she could tell me what kind of stones I have... Shrugs, I don't get it.

I am pee in a strainer to collect the stones. I have yet to collect one. I am peeing out all this white tissue and flushing the tissue. Then today I was told the stone would most likely be wrapped up in that tissue. So maybe I missed it? I have several so who knows. I just looked up urologist to call. Looks like urologist remove kidney stones not the nephrologist.

Thank you for the guidance. It's good to have. Hard to think clearly. I try to not take medication in the am so I can see what the pain is like; maybe it will change or be more tolerable.

Have a good night. sleep good.

Sannah, I think when you think of surgery you think they are going to cut you open. You would have to have gigantic huge kidney stones before they would cut into your kidney through your back. Yours may be too big to pass, but they aren't that big that you would need that kind of surgery.

All they would do is hit you with ultra sound and break them up so they are as small as grains of sand. I have another appt with my urologist and then I will ask him how long he is going to wait to see what's going on with the kidney stone I was left with in my other kidney. so far, it doesn't bother me, but it freaks me out that it could grow and move.

The one that he blew up so I could pass was huge in my right kidney. I was on the border of having to have it taken out through my back. I didn't want to go that route either. I am glad the ultra sound method worked.

My test showed my kidney stone was made from Calcium and I am supposed to drink things with citric acid like lemonaide to keep stones from forming.

I am so sorry Sannah if my post have scared you.

I just worry about you and you are such a sweet person I really am praying for you to get passed this suffering.

I do not want to see you suffer needlessly.

The Dr that removed my stones was a Urologist perhaps you can make an appt with one?

I was given my dr thru the emergency dept.

You are in my prayers!

Wishing all the best for you and speedy healing and happiness!!

Hi,

No need to apologize. I know you would never mean to scare me. This entire journey has been scary for me. I think this is just another piece and unfortunately I have to do something about it so I can move on. I am so tired of not being well.

I think I just have to grit my teeth one more time and hope for relief. Did it take you a while to heal from all this kidney stuff?

Best,

Sannah

Hi Sannah,

it is still healing. My troubles started December 11th and continued on until December 18th being my first surgery. I had a second surgery as well. I guess I'm kind of like iggy is with complications... I fear for people to have what I am going through...so I encourage people to hurry to their dr before damage is done. As you can see my pain lasted 7 days and 4 emergency room trips in those 7 days. By the fourth ct scan my ureter was blocked and my kidney was very swollen. My stones were lodged in my ureter. I am still suffering the damage this caused... My blood work shows kidney damage .... It is basically from being full of Calcium oxilate and being blocked for a period.

My back still aches but oh gosh it is nothing like when it had stones. That pain is indescribable. Now it is a dull ache like constant cramps high in your back. I am told I am "healing" and this is why I still hurt...

How's it going today Sannah? Did you get any rest last night?

I had a hard time. I can seem to keep food down. I talked to the nephrologist. I am here at the ER

My word!!! Sounds like you have endured too much with these pesky little stones!!! They seem to be tricky. After everything you're still in pain I am very sorry to hear this.

I completely understand not wanting others to endure the same thing you did. I feel this way about my leak. I unfortunately can't really do too much to help others not experience them. They just happen. I am here in the ER waiting room as I am not really able to keep my food down. I came here only under the agreement that I would not be staying the night. I have endured a lot of this pain at home and I see no reason to sleep here. My husband agrees.

The dr said I should get IV meds and a ct. Then may w surgery or connection with the urologist to get these things removed.

I hope that your pain is manageable and that you regain some kidney function. Do you think it's possible?

Hugs!

Sannah

Sannah..breaking down the stones through lithotripsy (shock wave) only makes the stones easier to pass and less painful. This therapy is not surgical removal.

  • You lie on a water-filled cushion, and the surgeon uses X-rays or ultrasound tests to precisely locate the stone. High-energy sound waves pass through your body without injuring it and break the stone into small pieces. These small pieces move through the urinary tract and out of the body more easily than a large stone.
  • The process takes about an hour.
  • You may receive sedatives or local anesthesia.
  • Your surgeon may use a stent if you have a large stone. A stent is a small, short tube of flexible plastic mesh that holds the ureter open. This helps the small stone pieces to pass without blocking the ureter.

Good luck...I know you are now in the ER seeking treatment for your stones. Good luck, sweetheart. Hope to hear you get the treatment you need and will soon be out of pain.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
