I have never attributed the back pain to my leak' date=' I absolutely knew the shoulder pain was once they told me (they give us a flyer of when to go to the ER, the shoulder pain wasn't on it but then they tell me it is the most common symptom??). I had the back pain long before the shoulder pain, I remember going with hubby to a movie and leaning forward in the chair and having him rub my back. Now I know!

I am eating fine! I was so nervous when I was allowed to eat. I took it very easy at first. I was completely NPO with a j-tube from early November to late January so it was very weird. Now I eat just about anything - the only thing I avoid is soft serve ice cream, it sends me in to dumping pretty quick! Otherwise, everything in moderation.

My only (leak) treatment was the j-tube and being NPO - now I had pneumonia, was septic and ended up with Fluid on my lungs in the beginning so I was on some pretty heavy antibiotics, had a blood transfusion, 3 chest tubes, had the picc line while I was in the hospital. After, I had to crush the meds and push in to the j-tube with Water. The Dr mentioned stents in the beginning but the Dr who would do them was on vacation or something at the time and then the subject never came up again. My mom kept telling me to ask and I said no, obviously he didn't feel it was needed now. Later I heard how horrible they were and am so glad I didn't have them!! My leak wasn't discovered until I was like 10 weeks out and my surgeon was shocked - he said I can't believe you aren't sick! I think most people have it discovered very early. I know it could have been so much worse, I am glad my body faught a hard battle before it was discovered.

When my leak was healed, they day I got my j-tube out, I asked the PA what were the chances it would open again and he said slim to none - unless I smoked and then all bets were off because smokers bodies don't heal well. So glad I'm not and never was a smoker!!!

so how did they find out you had a leak at 10 weeks out?

Hello!!

These gosh darn leaks cause so many problems. It sounds like you have been to the bottom of the pit too!!

What a great day it must have been to get the j-tube out!!! Relief I am sorry. Where on your sleeve was the leak? Mine was at the very top!!!

Cheers to a fellow non/never have smoker!!! Arg... Not sure why cigarettes are made and sold!!

Sounds like we had never different treatments for our leaks. But both of these situations j-tube and NPO or stents do not seem ideal!!! I was supposed to receive this glue over my leak and the clamp placed over it after my stents. I was so happy to not have the glue and clamp after the stents. I woke up during my stent removal!! Blah. That was the most miserable feeling.

How weird that you now have dumping. Did you experience this prior to your leak?

My test has changed completely. I have no idea what I like or don't like. One things for sure I am burned out on Protein shakes and all their glory!!

Have a great evening!!

Thank you again for sharing your story with me. I am thankful and appreciate knowing that you're a year healed and doing AMAZING!

Best,

Sannah

my labs showed my ferritin was high at 6 weeks but my Nut didnt realize until about 8 weeks and they sent me to a hematologist thinking lung cancer. he did a ct scan of my chest and saw my abscess in my abdomen, he personally called me and told me that he had no doubt when that was taken care of my ferritin would go back to normal. I met with my surgeon the next day and he told me he thought it was a leak and needed to go in and clean my abdoment out so we scheduled the surgery for 2 days later. After that surgery, when I had the leak test a few days later, it was standing up and didn't show a leak so they assumed no leak. About a week later they did another leak test and I felt nauseous and had to lay down for the rest of the test and then the leak showed when I rolled on my left side, there the whole time.

so how did they find out you had a leak at 10 weeks out?

Mine too was at the top, they told me it is the most common place on the sleeve because of the curve I guess?

I didn't have dumping before surgery but not sure if before the leak, I wasn't eating much then - I know now it was because the abscess was pushing on my sleeve.

My tastes had changed right after surgery but have slowly went back to normal. I actually found a Protein shake I LOVE - Matrix Mint Cookie.

I haven't heard much about the glue or clamp treatments. I have only heard of one other person who had the j-tube. Seems like the stents are the main treatment.

Oh my goodness!! It's a good day today!!

Have a good walk!! Sounds like a nice outing!! I hope you can get a little something at your favorite shop!! That would be AWESOME!! :).

Sorry to her food isn't settling well today. :( May tomorrow be better! :)

I am feeling pretty good!! 47g of Protein so far!! I generally don't weigh myself. I did today!! Down 66.7 lbs!!!

I think that Venla and I will go on walk if the gives us a break!!! I want to drive us somewhere' date=' but I have barely driven but two blocks. Not ready to have little v in the car until I feel confident. Tomorrow my folks are coming over!! :)

Have a great walk and time with your family!!![/quote']

We went to Santa Cruz it was in the 70's I could not believe how many people were at the beach!!

It was like a summer weekend... So weird.

Then we went downtown and my husband bought me a hand bag and I bought my daughter some earrings she wanted.then sushi my stomach felt better by then. :)

I had salmon sashimi this place has the best sashimi yum!!!

post-43821-13813663180641_thumb.jpg

47 grams of Protein that's great! So far eating hasn't given you any troubles?

Did you an Venla get out at all today or was the weather bad all day?

Driving was really hard for me for awhile so yes it's probably a good idea to wait!

That is a great weight loss! I was just reading on here people talking about their calorie intake..

It so confusing some swear by eating no more than 600 a day some eat over 1000 a day! I eat anywhere from 500 to 700 a day and my weight loss is very slow!! Sometimes I think I should try eating more but I'm scared.

Isn't that silly :P

Having a tough day. Back/shoulder pain are intense. Radiating abdominal pain and severe nausea again. Waiting lab results to see what is going in. Leak related? Dr said potential emergency gallbladder removal. I will post again soon. Going to have more meds and try to rest. I feel miserable

hope you're feeling better Sannah. You were doing so well, it's not fair to get sick again.

I had to have my gall bladder out and it seems that a lot of us sleevers have to have it out .

I'm probably going to come up sometime on March 10th. I still have to ask my boss for the time off work, which should not be a problem. I'll pm you when it gets closer and we can work out some details.

Well today they said they aren't sure if its a gallbaldder. I have to have a ct scan to see if I have another leak or they missed anything that is potentially life threatening. Then some other type of examination where they will inject several different substances and see how my liver and gallbladder fiction. It takes 180 minutes. I don't recall what it's called.

I feel scared. But also don't want to worry until I need to.

You are right not to let yourself worry yet. Just stay on top of it and make sure your doctors do the same. You have been through a lot. You can make it through this too!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
