Berries? Yes or no?

Recommended Posts

My Nutritionist told me no berries for 3 months because of the seeds and sugar.

There is this, I would though be disregarding my nut at this point to fully add any fruit, I did end up using a little.Know your own limits I would suggest; also ask, ask the persons that give your guidlines.

I wish I had the answer for you...I want grapes! lol I just want to pop a few in the freezer for a snack. I am a little irritated with my doc's office for getting me so behind in my appointments, my nut only gave me a diet guideline up to 6 weeks and I won't see her again until 8 weeks. Last time I was there she said no fruit or Beans or anything much other than lean Protein meat, lf cheese, and eggs. I have been adding a few things as I tolerate them though. I might just take a chance on the grapes, it's not like I want to eat a whole serving. :)

I've been eating fresh blueberries for a few weeks...I was only told I could eat soft fruit not hard fruit like apples. Also to avoid acidic fruit.

Not for me. I was told no nuts, seeds, berries till 4 months. Only ripe peeled fruit, too.

My doc said i can eat anything I want after two weeks as long as it doesn't upset my stomach. I've had strawberries, berries and nuts and I am losing weight. I am only 3weeks out. He said small amount of coffee with caffeine was ok. I feel good to

I'm curious, are tiny seeds from blueberries & raspberries dangerous in the first months after surgery???

RAAinNH, I can't really state one way or another on having pointed out tiny seeds, but I have read it thats reason some don't eat berries but also I am just told no fruit. I am going to surgeons office this week and his nut see's me at this time. I have been wanting to have a better discussion what's allowed as it goes for fruits, also I am probably out of any stage near enough to think it may effect that.

Thanks for your response JKG.... I purchased Successful Weight Loss With The Gastric Sleeve by Dr. Guillermo Alvarez. The books has a lot of good information and answers many of the questions I have. One of the things I learned that some people cannot tolerate seeds, especially in the first four months.

As we all know every doctor is different! Apples are good peeled though! Natural sugar he said he was not worried about! Seeds he said when im in three months. Only because of us focusing on Protein. So for now I'm eating apples peeled and cored in the crock pot with Splenda and cinnamon!!! It's amazing and great fiber!!! 7 wks and 62 lbs down!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
