Question - Clear Liquids 3 Weeks Post-Op

Recommended Posts

Yesterday at my 3 week appt, I found out that I'm going to be on liquids for the first 3 weeks after surgery. By liquids, I mean that I can only have things that can be poured through a strainer, nothing thicker than milk. That was the exact illustration from the doctor. With that in mind, I'm trying to figure out what my options will be post-op. I'm positive the doctor will give me an exact list of ideas such as broths, bouillon, juices, and, of course, Water. Aside from Unjury chicken Soup Protein Powder (which I'm pretty sure can be used if dissolved in hot/warm water but not positive - still need to verify), what other ways can you get Protein in on Clear Liquids?

Isopure has 40g of Protein in a 20 oz bottle. It doesn't taste great but it gets the job done!

I got the Grape Isopure and mix 5oz with Grape flavored crystal light, its the only way I can get it down.

At two weeks out I am doing great. When I get up in the morning I fix a 16 ounce thermos with Crystal light strawberry lemonade and two scoops of Unjury unflavored Protein. Then I fix a separate 16 ounce thermos with my Soup of choice mixed with two scoops of Unjury chicken soup flavored protein. I sip on both all day and both are absolutely delicious!!! That gives me 82 g protein and 32 oz liquid. I fill in the liquid with Water and Decaf coffee to equal about 60 oz.

Hi and best wishes with the surgery..... Each Dr. is different..... I lowfat cream Soups (strained) , diet snapple, sugar free popsicles, Decaf tea, priemer Protein Shakes 2 a day each one contains 30 grams of Protein. Sams club & costco have them by the case....Honestly I would be careful not to stock up too much.... your tastes can change..... When the Surgeon warned me of this I thought he was nuts.... But he was right. Something I have really enjoyed is the "crush brand" packets you add to water..... they sell strawberry, grape, and orange flavors.....they are sugar free and taste just like crush soda without the sugar and carbonation.

Again best wishes you!

I ordered the Unjury Sampler and the chicken noodle is great but I think to salty for my tastes at the moment. I haven't tried the other flavors yet. I've been using the Imetabolic products since before my surgery and still using them for the Protein. Eventually I'll be taking the chewables too. I'm trying herbal tea this morning as someone had recommended it from another topic. Still can't get but a couple sips down before the pain starts though lol. It will take me a bit longer before I can actually enjoy the taste of some of these drinks. I look forward to some juices or something different soon. Diet snapple and sugar free popsicles sound good too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
