Single Incision and Abdominal Wall Catheters

Recommended Posts

I have confidence in my surgeon. He will be doing a single incision surgery. One of the first in the Houston area to have started this. He will be using the SPIDER to do the surgery. A very cool tool (Google it). But he also will be placing two very thin abdominal wall catheters in place to help control pain. They are hooked up tp a pain pump that dispenses Marcaine or other drug of his choice for pain. Has nayone had this? Did it really help with the pain? What about the single incision surgery, how did that go?

All of these are suppose to really decrease recovery time and pain. Has any other sleever used or scheduled with Dr. Sherman Yu? He is the Bariatric Medical Director for Park Plaza Hospital in Houston?

Hello,

I used Dr. Yu and had the SPIDER procedure done at Park Plaza on 11/21/12. I am so thankful I chose him. I had my passport and plane tickets purchased for Dr. Lopez in Puerto Vallarta. I got scared and stayed local. I do not know about the abdominal wall catheters? I had a rough 3 days bc I had a hernia that Dr. Yu fixed while I was under. I coughed up a lot of stuff. Other than that I was sore but by the 5th day felt much better. I am 10 weeks out now and am seeing him in the morning for a follow up.

Oh great! Well you know i have questions.. The catheters are suppose to be hooked up to the pain pump. Did you have that? I too have to get a hernia repaired. Did you have just one incision? How long was the surgery? How long did you have to do the preop diet? What do you Wish you had done before surgery now that you have had it? Sorry but just trying to gather all the information can.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
