Wow, just wow! I am so sorry to hear that all of that happened to you. ! I was in a similar situation due to the leak I had ( found 2 weeks post op), chest tubes, etc. but my lung was only compressed. Those things hurt . And losing half your lung? that's insane. I can't imagine being a year out and being hit with all of that, totally unexpected. I am amazed that you were able to go so long with a leak and still live. I barely made it and it was found after two weeks. You are a very strong woman, that is just horrible what you had to go through physically and mentally- and you still have an upbeat attitude! thank you for sharing your story. I am so glad that you are better now.

Question for you though- how did they treat your leak? I had a stent and that was hell. I can't imagine what they had to use for a year old leak! You poor thing!

Dont the docs perform leak checks intensively? Pre approval stage what a concerning story...but definitely a reminder that God is in the throne!!,

Yes they do and i had them done. They went so far as to put pressure in my stomach when i was having surgery on my lungs and still nothing the dr preformed the test numerous times before he finished. It was just a leak that did not want to be found lol

XOXO- was it a constant shoulder pain' date=' or randomly bothered you? Did you have ever since you had surgery?

I ask because I've had shoulder pain and my surgeon said he's never heard of shoulder pain. Mine is not constant, but when I start to get full when eating or if I've ate too much.

I'm glad to see you are back to being healthy & thank you for sharing your story![/quote']

I would be concerned about the quality of a doctor who said he's never heard of shoulder pain involved with this surgery. Left shoulder pain is a common leak symptom (typically for high up leaks).

That does not mean all shoulder pains are leaks, but if someone is early out and not doing well, and has left shoulder pain, they need to be checked with a barium swallow.

OP I'm glad to hear you are doing better. I too had a leak, but not as far out as your's was. They are extremely rare after six months and having gone through much of what you did (aren't those drains from your lungs fun? NOT) I just want to fly over the net and give you a hug! I'm so glad you're doing well now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
