My doc told me to increase the Miralax daily until I went like I used to before the surgery. He said if twice a day works then great you get in two extra glasses of Water over yourmgoal which will serve two purposes 1) a bowel movement 2) more fluids over required and it will increase weight loss. He said if it takes three doses a day of the Miralax it is fine. Just increase until you find the dose that works well and is comfortable for you. I also used Fleets suppositories to have a bowel movement when you had the urge but it was too hard or dry to pass it. These soften things and work quickly for you. Sell them anywhere like Walmart or drugstores. And they are cheap. Currently I'm doing two doses or Miralax daily and it does the job well.

Chia seeds are gods gift to man. They are small seeds that consume 10x their weight in Water. They have a lot of good nutritional components for us sleevers: Protein, Omega 3 fatty acids, etc.

This makes me wonder if I have a problem. Since about day 5 post op everytime something hits my lips it comes out (water) immediately. The first 5 days after surgery I felt constipated but I was in the hospital for 5 days and they gave me a stool softener twice. I assumed my bowels just werent back from anesthesia yet but now I can't stop. It very fast also. I hope that is normal because the Constipation issue seems to be normal for all of you and I'm going the other direction.

It starts liquid. Then after a couple weeks it turns solid.

Something else to look forward to!! Since my sleeve was done in an emergency I didn't have any nutritional advice and my appointment with the nutritionist isn't until Wednesday so I guess I will have a lot of questions answered then. Did anyone get a know under one of their incisions? I have one and hope it is just scar tissue or something. I don't need any more problems!

I try to avoid chemicals and such. From what I have read it can work, and brings some Fiber to my diet without carbs!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
