Adding Friends on MyFitnessPal

I can't figure out how to add friends to MFP. When I go to add friends it gives me three options- from Facebook, from my contacts and from my email. Is there a way to just search for someone using their user name???

Yes, in the option that reads email you can just put their MFP username. It will send that person a friend request. Took a while for me to figure it out too!! Good luck

I know what MFP is, but what is the benefit of adding people? How does that work?
