Sleeved and can't stop vomiting

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I was sleeved on Wed. January 30th and I don't have much pain, just itchiness on the incision sites, but I am vomiting every 2-3 hours. Its mainly bile. Is this normal and how much longer will this go on? I tried sipping Water but I can't hold it down.

Did you call your doctor?

I was sleeved on the 28th and the only dry heaving I had was minimal and from anesthesia. That does not sound normal to me at all. I have been drinking Water non stop since I passed my leak test with no issues. I believe you should call your doctor immediately. With that being said, do you think maybe it might be from the remnants of the anesthesia?

I didn't have vomiting right after the surgery. I do remember feeling nauseous but zofran always helped.

You most definitely need to call your Dr.

I imagine you will become dehydrated soon so you should plan a trip to the office to get a bag of fluids, at the very least.

Good luck!!

Yeah, vomiting is bad, especially right after surgery.

I don't know how normal it is. I didn't have any nausea or vomiting after surgery. If you're vomiting every couple of hours, you should be calling them ASAP.

Thanks, I believe I have it under control now. Just trying to push down some liquids and walking more.

I was so sick to my stomach after surgery it was crazy! But when I stopped the pain meds it all went away. I can't do narcotic pain meds - hope I don't ever REALLY need them!

I vomited so much I thought I was dying! Seriously considered begging my surgeon to put my stomach back. :) But after the 4th day I felt like a new woman.

I vomited for hours and hours after surgery. Your stomach and esophagus are still really swollen so I would not be too alarmed. I would call your surgeon and check with them. Do your best to keep as much Water down as you can and just do what you can. Keep an eye on your hydration levels and call your doctor ASAP.

I had 48 hours of dry heaving that did not begin until about 18 hours of surgery. It began when they took away the pain pump and gave me lortab. It sucked! I would call the doc and get an anti nausea med. good luck.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
