Enlarged Testicles

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys - I am 3 days post op. I had surgery on 1/29/13 and I noticed yesterday that my testicles are very enlarged. Has anyone else seen this problem post-operation?

I haven't but I would get that checked ASAP. Could be a post-operation infection...

You could have varicoce (varicose veins) or hydrocele that mean Fluid in your testes.

Definitely doesn't sound like a normal side effect from the surgery, you should contact your Dr. and see what they say. Good Luck,

My partner works in a hospital flipping patients. He sees this all the time. It's usually because the patients have been pretty stationary while in bed. If you didn't move around much, it could just be Fluid accumation (especially with as much as they pump into you). Hopefully a few days have passed now and you are up and about and there is improvement!

Scrotal edema is not rare for men after abdominal surgeries. Some people have an underlying hernia (and may not know it) that can make it worse, but sometimes it just happens. I would tell your provider if it worsens....wear briefs for support and use ice pads for swelling (as tolerated of course). Fluids, Proteins, and walking will help as well.

So an update - it took three ER visits, before anyone decided to take this seriously. Apparently I was bleeding and because I had been laying (and walking every 30 minutes as per the doctor's instructions) I developed a blood bruise on the left side. What made matters worse is there wasn't a CT Scan in the Las Vegas area that would hold a man of my weight and girth (guess fat people are just screwed in Sin City) and so I was admitte to the hospital for five days for monitoring. Now everything is 95% back to normal!

Josh,

Glad to hear it was a blood bruise and that you are back to normal. I had a problem with the boys years ago called testicular torsion. It happens to wrestlers folks who play judo or other sports without a jock or tight shorts. They have to be untwisted to free the tubes that run to them. When you first posted I had a flashback and hoped that wasnt your issue. Glad you are all good now!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
