Should it be this easy? 3 days out, no problems with drinking at all.

Recommended Posts

Sleeved on Monday (three days now) -- I haven't had a single problem drinking Water or juice or eating Jello, popsicles, etc. Is that weird? I read about so many people not even able to take sips or get their fluids in. Don't get me wrong, I'm so grateful that this has been this easy and virtually pain free, I'm just wondering when I'm going to feel any restriction.

Everyone reacts differently to the surgery, some people have a lot of swelling in there stomach and esophagus so they have a hard time drinking at first others don't. I personally was able to drink fairly easily right away and haven't had any problems. Good Luck.

Oh and you won't feel the restriction for a while!

First off you are numb..

And second you won't feel it until you start eating more dense type Proteins

So far the hard part to me seems to be what to do with stress and emotions that isn't eating. Dealing with the emotional reasons that I became fat (again and again) is the really hard part. I didn't have problems with drinking either.

Over the past 2 1/2 weeks I've been up and down. No issues with drinking Clear Liquids, like Water or tea. shakes I have to sip very slowly, or it feels like it backs up with pressure in my throat and under sternum. Puréed Soups I measure out 1/4 cup, and sip it slowly, taking about 15 min. Then about an hr or so later, I try some more. Some days no problem, but others I feel like I'm forcing every spoonful.

Everyone says it gets better as time goes by though.

I know it can be hard dealing with that at first. I think a lot of people aren't prepared for that part and to make matters worse your emotions are going to be all over the place in the first month or so. So go easy on yourself recognize this is normal and use this time to work on finding new things to do that make you happy. Sometimes just taking a walk and feeling some sun on your face helps

I was the same way! I felt restriction when drinking right away and because of this, it took awhile to get all of my liquids in, but I took little sips and never felt sick or over-full. I asked my surgeon at my one week check up if they really did surgery on me because, besides the restriction, I really had no pain and no complications. I had seen nothing but people getting sick and not being able to get their liquids down on here so I thought that maybe they made my sleeve too big, but I am losing slow and steady and couldn't be happier! I am 3 and a half months out now and have never felt sick (from eating) and I have never thrown up. I know that everybody is different, but I count myself lucky for having no problems whatsoever! I hope your recovery is as successful!

I did pretty good the first week. Then I began having issues with both the Protein and Water. I couldn't handle the taste or smell of the Protein I had and Water gave me gas. It took a while before I got it together but I was impressed with myself until the day I gagged on the protein.

Good luck and congrats. I hope it continues to go smooth for you.

I am one of the lucky ones too ... so far. Just had issues with the IV .. phlebitis I guess. I am getting ready to drink my first drinkable yogurt. I am so excited.

I am 13 1/2 months out now and have RARELY ever felt a restriction. I never had any pain at all after the VSG surgery but I had the one incision through the belly button which might have had something to do with that. I don't think I have heard of anyone yet on this site that had the one incision. Yes, you are just one of the lucky ones!

I was one of the lucky ones, too. I had no throwing up and very little nausea, was able to keep Water and other liquids down right away. I am now 5 weeks out and tolerating many foods now (cut in tiny bites). So far, the only thing I have had a problem with is the cheese sauce from Unjury. I only feel a discomfort when I am getting full, then I just STOP EATING and I feel happy with that change in myself! Good luck!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
