WHAT TO TAKE FOR THE FLU

Recommended Posts

How far post op are you?

What is XL-3? Maybe it would be good to use for next year.

Obviously what medications you can take is a question best for your Dr. I did look up the XL-3 you said about and one of the ingredients is 325mg of Aspirin so depending on how far out you are this might not be a very good choice since Aspirin is know for irritating the lining of the stomach and is also a blood thinner. Good Luck.

I hope you feel better soon. I too had the flu last week and it had to be the worst ever. Most of the bad symptoms are gone today' date=' but still dealing with cough and lower energy level. My doctor would not prescribe Tamiflu over the phone, so I hauled myself into the office. I had taken some tylenol before going, so my temp lowered. I did not have a high enough fever so he would not prescribe it. Argh! Let me tell you, my fever was plenty high over the next few days. I felt absolutely horrible for about a week. This week I am feeling better. I used mostly tylenol, alcaseltzer (sp?) cold and flu last week. I am using robbitusin (sp?) cough this week. I hope you feel better soon.[/quote']

Thats just absurd! Fever is only one symptom & shouldnt determine whether u get tamiflu or not... like sumone else stated from what ive heard n seen tamiflu doesnt do a whole lot :-/ sry u were treated so poorly tho... id b finding a new dr! Glad ur feeling better :-)

Actually tamiflu is only supposed to be per scribed when there is a positive throat swab for the flu and symptoms have started within 48 hours but unfortunately different Dr.s have their own ideas about it regardless of the CDC guidelines. That is directly related to why it doesn't work for a lot of people.

Edit: anyone have any idea why random pictures from other people are showing up on posts today it's kind of confusing.

Oh, i realize that.. guess i shouldve included that... all i meant was... not currently having a fever, esp after having already taken a fever reducing med, is NOT an excuse not to prescribe tamiflu... i in no way meant they should hand it out to anyone who asks... thx for clarifying :-)

I'm 9 weeks post op. perhaps I should hold off on the medicine then? I feel sort of better, but not at 100% yet. Maybe at like... 25%. I'm calling in sick at work for the next 3 days depending on how I feel. I've been sleeping a lot, ate some chicken broth for lunch yesterday. Nothing but orange juice today.

I'm concerned about my meeting I'm going to. It should last an hour. Then like 1.5-2 hours in traffic to get home. Damn...

They claimed if I did not meet all the symptoms then tamiflu would not work for me and I would be taking it away from someone who "really" needed it. Pissed me off. So I had to downright suffer for a week with immobilizing symptoms. I have been with the same clinic for many years.

Homeopathics! I hate western medicine so they are the only thing I use. You can get them at health food stores.

Also take a table spoon of organic honey sprinkled with lots of cinnamon and swallow.

Sip on lemon Water (can add some apple cider vinegar if you can stand it).

Suck on zinc lozenges.

This is all I ever do when I am sick and it works every time.

Also garlic and echinacea help tons.

Yes, I have heard of this approach too. My MIL, who is a retired RN, also swears by taking a certain ratio of ibuprofen to echinacea at the first sign of symptoms. I did not have any echinacea at the time, but probably would have tried this if I had some.

Ya my mom always tried natural approaches before turning to medicine. There are sooo many homeopathics for so many different symptoms and conditions and they have always worked wonders for me.

The only time I will take western medicine is my nexium (which is a necessity). And anti biotics for my strep throat I get from time to time that usually lands me in the hospital with iv's because it gets so bad.

What about for intense pain? Would you use oxycodone, hydrcodone or some other narcotic for that? Or would you use a homeopathic equivalent like kava kava (anesthesia properties may be too mild for intense pain)

Personally, as an RN, I believe in good old fashioned herbal remedies, but am a big fan of better living through modern chemistry. For the intense pain I took the 2 mg Dilaudids I did not use post op. did 2 a day for 3 days. It eased my suffering a bit.

Done Did It!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
