Surgery confirmed for feb 6th and freaking out

Recommended Posts

I'm sure lot of you must have a zillion questions and worries just like me. I am generally a very paranoid person so I'm freaking out even more.

I have 2 kids and I'm afraid I won't be able to do much with and for them post op.

I had a few questions for the people that have gone through the surgery...

How bad is it after? I mean what do you feel once you wake up?

I've read that people feel pain and discomfort... Wondering if its the stitches that hurt or is it the inside of your stomach that hurts?

I am worried that Ill have a tough time not being able to eat good(fatty) foods and ill feel depressed about it.

I'm doing a pre op diet and its bloody tough.

Anyone out there with similar concerns?

Im nervous too. I just want to wake up and it already be over. A friend of mine had it done two weeks ago, and he said he felt some gas pain but felt fine 3 days out. He returned to work within 2 weeks and has no pain at all. Hope this helps some. Good luck.

  • I didn't feel bad at all after
  • I felt elated that it was done and was up walking within hours of surgery (I think I even did a little break dancing for the nurses)
  • My incisions didn't hurt, but I could feel a pulling sensation
  • You may not even crave fatty food - if you think you might be depressed about it - start working that out with a therapist because you will be exposed to all kinds of things in the real world post-op
  • Pre-op diets are tough, but they are so crucial to a successful surgery and decrease risk
  • I think everyone has your concerns and they are healthy - great job reaching out!

You will have some pain and discomfort for probably the first few days. The day after surgery it gets better day by day. Just remember to walk and take the GasX strips they really work. You'll be tired and weak for a little while after you get home, but you have to get up and move and sip on something every chance that you get. I am pretty sure you both will do great. Keep positive thoughts and everything will be ok

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
