stomach pain when you drink?

Recommended Posts

I am taking very small sips of Water and Protein Drinks. Every time I drink, I can actually feel it go down. Feels like I swallowed an "air bubble" every time. Thought or experience on this? Btw, I'm only one day post op.

That was the case for me as well. I could only take tiny sips for the 1st few days and everything hurt. It does get better.

totally my case a swell except the pain was so bad when I took a small sip of Water that it felt like I was being stabbed. I was re admitted after only one day of being home because they were very concerned for me. they thought I had a leak. But after lots of tests they found nothing wrong, so they decided it must have been severe sensitivity to anything in my stomach. I was very swollen for a week but after that things got way better. I was able to drink 1/2 a ensure drink over the period of an hour lol but it was something! I still have very small intake but I feel good. Im 2 months out now. I can eat allot more variety now which is nice. :) dont worry it gets better as time goes on :)

I still get that discomfort under my sternum when I swallow things and I'm six weeks out. My surgeon showed me the diagram of the stomach and why it hurts. Things come down and hit the stomach from a curve. I've heard a lot of people here say they have it and that it stops at around 3 months. I look forward to that day.

I am almost 4 months out and can't take more than 3 small drinks at a time. I feel my stomach start to get the pressure of being full. and it hurts! I even fill it in my throat!

I can't wait to drink like a normal person again.

I get that too (3 days post-op) was really bad in the hospital, getting better day by day. My real trouble in the pills, most are chewable but some of the others i have to crush or open as they are too big! Another thing, at first they just cut the big pills, BIG mistake, made them sharp and harder to get down! Crush them if they allow!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
