Sleeve done yesterday morning! So many question.

Recommended Posts

So my sleeve was done yesterday AM, I wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything for almost 36 hours. Anyway, obviously I'm having trouble even choking down Water. I'm not nauseated (yet). I am very hungry, but I just can't eat more than a sip of my Protein drinks. Any tips? I don't want to run out of energy the way I used to on diets...

Also, I weighed 6 pounds more this morning! I was not happy about that at all. I realize it must be Water weight as I haven't eaten in days. Anyone else experience this?

I haven't had surgery, but my understanding is that it's normal for the weight gain. I'm sure you'll see weight loss soon. Good luck!

I'm three days out, and yes, gained a few from the surgery - they pumped a lot of liquid into you through your IV. And you probably are retaining some Water from the swelling. It will drop quickly. Hang in there.

I'm not having any trouble with Water drinking or anything, which seems kind of strange - but I'm not complaining. No nausea, and not much pain either. I feel lucky.

Just keep drinking, even if you have to force it. Dehydration will not be helpful.

Hello! Its pretty normal-you will be lucky to have a few sips and that's it! The Fluid retention is from IV, no worries about that. Don't weigh yourself for a week :)

sugar free popsicles were my best friend. Are you home from the hospital already? The only things I could have the second day were the popsicles, broth, skim milk and Water. liquids should fill you up pretty well the first couple days.

They discharged me this afternoon on a bariatric "step 2" diet. Which means full liquid. I'm not really sure I'm comfortable drinking heavy things just yet. I think going to stay on the clear liquid for a couple more days. Been trying to choke down my Atkins shake and Water. Hasn't worked so well.

Totally normal. Like others said iv fluids and swelling. I would worry more about Water, popsicles and broths the first couple days. I couldn't even smell a Protein Drink for almost 2 weeks postop.

I wish you well! Congrats on your sleeve!

I wasn't allowed anything but Clear Liquids the first week. broth, warm tea, Jello, crystal light. Just keep sipping. Everyday it gets easier and the Fluid intake increases and walk walk walk. You'll do great!

sugar free popsicles are a life saver! Also the first few days I brought home medicine cups from the hospital and the goal was to try and drink one every 15 minutes.

wait a few days on Protein Drinks if you need to as they feel heavier. I also found that the low calorie gatoraide was easier on my sleeve than Water, so experiment with fluids.

Weight gain is Fluid and normal.

Welcome to sleevedom!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
