hey guys, i was sleeved two days ago and got discharged from the hospital today. I feel like 2 days wasn't enough??? anyone get discharged within 2 business day? my stomach hurts. a lot. lot of gas but feel like i can't pass it. urine was dark but now returning to normal color. I had two stools that were really dark brown almost light black. how long do we have to worry about blood clots? i am trying to move as often as possible. i am just worried about when i go to bed and sleep. should i be worried? i had 6 incisions but i feel like only 2-3 hurt. tomorrow is my first full day home. what can i expect?? can i start my Vitamins? i was told yes. what else can i start? can i drink ensure tomorrow or my Vitamin Water zero ?? please any additional help is greatly appreciated. my wife and i have a 10 month old baby at home with us and one on the way so sleep hasn't been our friend. i feel so bad for my wife that she has to do everything. what a time to go out.

btw i can't distinguish pain from gas and pain from surgery sometimes i feel like i want to vomit. please help me.

The most important thing to do is sip, sip, sip Water or other fluids to make sure you stay hydrated. Also you need to walk as much as you can to get rid of the gas pains, also GasX strips help. As for the Vitamins thats up to your doctor. Get as much rest as you can as well, that is when your body is healing the most. And also Welcome to the sleeve side :-)

I didn't feel like 2 days in the hospital were enough either. My doctor wasn't worried about blood clots after I was released. He mainly wanted me to get up and walk several times a day to reduce the chances of a blood clot. So I wasn't worried about them.

I was hurting for about 6 days and then things started feeling better. I was back at work on day 10 with no pain, just felt very tired all the time.

I wouldn't worry about getting blood clots while sleeping. Just keep moving and things should work out fine.

As far as your diet and Vitamins, every doctor has their own program and I would follow his instructions.

One thing that helped me with the gas pains was taking tiny sips of Water. I'd take a sip, swallow and tilt my head back and contract my stomach muscles just a little. That would help me burp.

And when I was eating, I'd only take about 1/4 teaspoon size bites and wait a minute between bites or swallows to see how my stomach felt.

hi first congratulations....I was in the hospital for 2 days as well. The most important thing is keeping the liquids going. I drank premier shakes when I got home. Drank 2 a day that counted as 22 oz of Fluid. I had cream Soups (low fat and strained) that was more fluid. I had a hard time with plain water and still do 3 Months out. So I drank diet snapple ..... I would use a timer and set it for every 15 min. In the beginning so I could get in all the fluids. It was hard for me in the first two weeks...it got easier. As to bowel movements.....It took me 12 days to have one and it was dark as well...... A long as you are having one about every 2 to 3 days I was told that is normal. I had pain as well. My Dr. Priscribed liquid medicine.... And pills that dissolve on the tongue for nausea. If you we're not prescribed them I would call and ask for them. It was hard to tell the difference from pain and gas.... However, remember that you just had a major surgery and there is swelling involved. Gas and swelling is painful.....As the swelling goes down so will the discomfort. When I felt gas I would walk around and it helped. I also bought some over the counter "Gas X Strips" those have been a life saver and still are ...... I hope this info helps... Best wishes! Tina

I was sleeved on a Wednesday tafternoon and released the next day late Thursday afternoon. It's not that abnormal. Just rest a lot and take your Meds you'll feel much better in the days to come! It progresses significantly each day.

I was sleeved a day before you! I was also discharged the following day around 6 pm. I have been fine other than some gas. My incisions aren't hurting too much at all. What did your doctor use on your incisions? Mine are glued and it has been awesome. I too have had pain from gas but am burping and farting like crazy. I only take the liquid pain med prior to bedtime so I can sleep. Sleep is SO important during recovery. Sip as much as you can because the last thing you want is to be dehydrated. Being dehydrated will just make you feel worse. If you can keep them down you should be able to start your Vitamins, but I wouldn't worry about those right away unless you are sure you can keep your liquids down. Just some rookie advice from a fellow "new" sleever.

Stacy, I am getting in around 40 ounces of Water and around 25 ounces of Protein. This however has been a real challenge., doctor told me to just do what I could and not get dehydrated. :-)

i am feeling ok. my stomach seems to be making crazy noises and sounds. i started my Vitamins this morning. i had a instant carnation shake for lunch. been sipping Water as well. trying my best to get up and move about. will take an actual walk in a bit. just need to rest some more. i am not to gassy unless that's the pain and discomfort that i am feeling. the wounds are covered. it looks like with a white square guaze and then clear tape over them so i can't see anything. i feel like only 2 out of 6 of the entry sights are sore. bruising and swelling seems to be getting better. it's so hard to drink so much so slowly you know??

I am not experiencing the gas pains that many do. I will consider myself lucky. I sleep pretty darn good.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
