I ate a fair bit of it but it was the little cans of flavoured sandwich tunu - I find flaked tuna (like you buy in the bigger cans, in springwater) rather a "sticky" food. Just the texture of it, I dont know, so I ate the little cans - they were niced mixed with chick peas and chopped Tomato and cucumber (skinned at that stage) and the flavour/oil from the tuna made a dressing.

I did fine on that during mushies, easy to eat, nutritious. For me, my doc said mushies didnt actually have to be mushed as long as they were soft foods, like I could eat well steamed vegetables for instance.

I ate it as a mushy and gosh did it taste goooooooood!!! Just go slow and take very small amounts in, chew chew chew until it melts in your mouth.

Slow is the key to not hurting yourself and chew well.

I ate tuna as a mushy, with a bit of ff mayo. I'm a tuna addict - love the stuff, could eat it everyday. I also occasionally had those frozen fish fillets as a mushy - the ones that come in a pack w/ like lemon and pepper or what not that you just toss in a pot, still in the packet and steam. It mushed up nicely and was full of Protein.< /p>

I probably can eat salad but I don't. I may have a little spinach salad. In general, salad, especially lettuce, has few nutrients. When you are eating the proper amount, you need to get in your calories and nutrients. Lettuce will do nothing in either category.

Hi,

I tolerate green salads very well but there's not much nutrtional value really. I'm a little over 6 weeks out and just had my first fill on Tuesday. I was afraid too at first because I thought I might now chew thoroughly enough and it might get stuck but that's not the case at all. I usually have just a tiny, tiny salad bfore I move on to my proteins/meats when we eat out. I don't even bother with it at home since I eat so little of it and my family doesn't care for salads. But it is good to taste something besides our foods which are so full of Proteins. Variety is good.

I too, love my salads. But umm, I tend to fill them with horrible for me stuff lol. A typical salad for me is mixed baby asian greens (huge serve, cause it mushes up good in the end lol), 4 or 5 green/black olives, a slice of onion chopped, a few baby carrots diced, alfalfa sprouts, bean shoots, chopped lowfat leg ham or tuna or chicken, a bit of shredded cheese, diced celery if I have some, as well as diced capsicum .. but then I smother the lot in ranch dressing with hot sauce lol. So while it has plenty of nutrients in it, its loaded with fat from the olives, cheese and dressing.

It is without a doubt though, my favorite food. Most nights (when I'm not on this freakin liquid diet lol), I'll have a salad, even if I fix something else for the family. Luckily its one of those things I've not had any trouble getting down. Earlier this year, I actually went for 2 whole months, having a bowl of salad for dinner every night, without even realizing til a friend started making fun of me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
