teenietiny 0 Posted January 31, 2013 Did the VSG help your sleep apnea? If so, how long before you felt like you were really sleeping and getting rest?
joatsaint 2,814 Posted January 31, 2013 I'm 34 days post-op and only in the last 2 weeks have I had more quality sleep. I still have to use the CPAP machine, but I need less sleep and I feel more rested. Pre-surgery, I would sleep 8 - 9 hours and wake up tired, now I sleep 6 - 7 hours and feel okay. I've noticed that as I've cut back on my food intake in the past, I needed less sleep.
ArcusX 216 Posted January 31, 2013 Statistically, bariatric surgery resolves 74-98% of obstructive sleep apnea.
teenietiny 0 Posted January 31, 2013 Oh I know it will help. I just want some anecdotal evidence. I want to know people's personal experiences.
gmanbat 5,889 Posted January 31, 2013 About a month out I put the CPAP away.
O.T.R. sleever 3,386 Posted January 31, 2013 I've been on a CPAP for about 8 years now. I'm 9mo post-op & really think I would pass a sleep study now. However, due to the high cost involved in going to a sleep lab (home studies aren't accepted in my business) I'm going to wait a few more months. As far as anecdotal evidence, I really don't need much sleep anymore. And even when I do go without my machine, I've been told that I don't snore anymore & I don't gasp for air either.
