Does anyone workout on their pre-op diet?

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to get motivated to go workout but I'm on day 3 of my 3 week skim milk pre-op diet and I'm just really tired and I'm affraid I'm not taking in enough calories to keep me going if I go workout. I was just wondering if anyone else has this same problem.

I didn't ... I was in no shape to work out at my weight with my high blood pressure and aching body.

I saved that for two months after surgery.

After surgery I just walked my heart out and boy my legs hurt!! They didn't recognize what I was doing to them!

Workout?? Pre op diet? Oh heck no! The only workout I did was flapping my lips lamenting on how tired and hungry I was! :)

Honestly, I did not. It's probably better to if you can, but I flat out did not have the energy.

I did but I wasn't on a skim milk diet. I was on a partly liquid diet provided by my doctor. It was only 500 calories a day. After probably 10 days I went to the gym one night and felt light headed and dizzy. I came home immediately and threw up. I called my NUT who talked to the doctor and told me not to work out again until surgery. I clearly was not taking in enough calories to support it.

Well I went to the gym did 10 mins on the elliptical and felt like I could have done more but had alreay burned 110 calories so decided to stop. I also did a few weights. I feel hungry but didn't get lite headed. So I'm happy about that.

I'm on 800 calories a day for 12 weeks prior to my actual "preop". For me, no, I haven't worked out. I work on my feet all day and I do some light walking ( about 30-45 minutes at 2.7 MPH)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
