Returning to Protein drinks to get weight loss going....

Recommended Posts

I feel desperate at this point. Stuck between 214-215 for what seems like weeks.

Eating mostly Protein, probably eating between 20-30 gms of Carbs (less most days)

Trying to get all my fluids in (not reaching 60, but closer to 48)

I am thinking perhaps of drinking Protein Drinks for 2 of my meals (breakfast and dinner) for a couple of weeks to see if that helps things along

Has anyone tried this or a version of this to get the scale moving again?

The scale is the enemy... It drove me bonkers... Use a measuring tape and keep track that way..

As for Protein drinks just make sure if your going to do another shake don't eat and do a shake unless you need the calories.

Be patient... It will happen :)

Also write down dates if you weigh... Sometimes it feels like weeks and its just 5 days ;)

Yes, subbing a meal with a Protein Shake. I never thought I would utter those two words again after my pre and post op Fluid diet, but alas, I need to get things going.

Also increasing your Water helps a lot

That's when my weight loss was best... Water helps flush everything out and keeps your body functioning in prime fat burning mode

I agree- try upping your water- it's so hard, I am also fluid-challenged. Also, do you exercise?

I have not been exercising as I would like to be--just walking and walking my dog.

I have hip dysplasia in both hips, now with severe arthritis in my left hip, so I walk with a limp and by the end of the day, I am in agony. It's bone on bone, scheduled for total hip replacement in May.

My surgeon allowed me to go back on Aleve, so that has helped a lot. Being without NSAIDs for the first month was horrible.

My BF and I are going to go out and get an exercise bike for both of us to use--non impact and will be helpful post hip surgery too. Oh, and will get some weights to start using.

Ouch!!! Ask your doctor for tramadol

It's safe with the sleeve and works for joint pains, arthritis, bone spurs, disc problems

You name it

I have Tramadol for night time, but it makes me feel tired and loopy.

I really need the antiinflammatory properties of Aleve. I take only one per day, and my doc said it was safe for me to use and had no issue with it. He said, 'we give you Toradol (another NSAID) post operatively to decrease inflammation in your sleeve for a few days, so this is safe for you to use"

Ah that's good! I'm glad your not hurting, I can relate to constant pain.

I think I might consult my physician about aleve... I wake up so stiff and hurting its almost unbearable... If I could take an aleve maybe at night then I might not hurt so badly in the am

He was not even on the fence about it. I told him during my preop that I was living on the things, and he just wanted me off of them 2 weeks prior due to bleeding (all salicylates--ASA, etc). I recall him telling me that if I had bypass--no way, but the sleeve was fine. I am on a PPI (omeprazole), so I have some additional protection.

I am an RN, so very hesistant to start back on them if harmful. So far so good. Aleve is naproxyn, so it lasts a heck of a lot longer than ibuprofen. I was in so much pain, I couldnt even sit down on the toilet or get into my car without almost crying. Walking became unbearable and stairs, nearly impossible. Now I am walking (with a bit of a limp), but almost pain free all day.

So glad you're doing better! Thanks for telling me about the aleve. I will start back on my Dexilant and pick up some aleve tonight! :)

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
