rsbell 0 Posted November 10, 2006 As I had been posting below under another thread below, my new-found anemia was caused by significant loss of blood, as discovered by endoscopy/colonoscopy yesterday. What was found were 2 bleeding ulcers in my lower esophogus. As a result, my surgery scheduled for Monday was cancelled, and I have to go back for another endoscopy in 2 months to see if the ulcers are healed. IF they're healed, I can have the surgery then, but not until they are healed. The Dr. could see blood running down my esophogus with the scope. So, I'm not a bandster yet, but hope to be in January... :angry
Melissa Lea 1 Posted November 10, 2006 Rsbell --you will be a bandster soon enough. It's a great blessing in desguise that they found the ulcers prior to surgery. I can not even begin to imagine the post op complications you might have had if these ulcers remained undiagnosed. Best wishes and get well!

JDru 0 Posted November 11, 2006 I had this exact same problem! My family doc saw I was anemic on a routine blood test in August. Upon investigation, she found I had bleeding in my GI tract. My surgery was originally scheduled for Oct 5, but they ended up having to do the endoscopy/colonoscopy on Oct 5. They couldn't find anything with the scopes, so then I had to do a barium swallow and x-rays. Still, nothing. So then I had to swallow this pill with a camera in it and they finally found an ulcer in my small intestine. I was able to have surgery on Oct 26 and I now take Prevacid and Iron everyday. I'm sorry to hear your surgery has been postponed, but it's good you found out about the ulcers now. Good luck healing!!! January will be here before you know it. rsbell 0 Posted November 11, 2006 Thanks for the kind words! My wife said she couldn't beleive how depressed I was after getting the news... On the flip side, apparently I was pretty funny during the procedure. I don't remember, but my wife said I told the doctor he should look at my wisdom teeth during the colonoscopy since he'd gone so deep...
