i can pretty much live on Premier shakes. You can get them at Sam's club or costco. Come in vanilla or chocolate (their website says they have strawberry, but I've never seen it). I don't do powders, they never seem to mix or taste right IMO.

I have surgery on Monday, so I've been doing the shakes. I've tried premier Protein and pure Protein. The Pure protein are ok. I wouldn't go so far as to say good, but very drinkable. The Premier Protein ones were vile. I like the chocolate splendor from unjury the best. You can order a sample pack from them to try the different flavors.

A couple of tricks.

Get the drinks as cold as possible. That masks the aftertaste.

A tsp of instant coffee granules to the chocolate splendor is the bomb. Again just a little something extra to mask an oddness.

You can add crystal light to the vanilla for a change of pace.

Good luck.

I start tomorrow (Friday) too... I was given Optifast shakes and bars from my surgeons office. I'm sure it will all taste like crap but I'm so looking forward to starting to feel better i don't care at this point. How's it going for you? Was today your first day??

I'm Feb. 13th too!! I have a few different brands of Protein powders, just made sure they were protein isolates. ISOLATE EVOLUTION BY INTEK vanilla is my fav so far. 1 scoop 130 cals, 1g fat, 0 carbs and 30g protein. Some places like Complete Nutrition will have protein powders open in store you can sample.

I have a few bottles of McCormick extract on hand so that I can add a few drops and change up the flavor and keep it interesting. So far I like Rasberry and Mint extract. Good luck!!

I have tried just about everything. It's been very hard for me to find something I could hold down. I finally came across Premier from costco and can actually tolerate the chocolate as long as its ice cold. Unjury's unflavored smells so bad it doesn't matter if its unflavored! Yuk!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
