Well guys,

The time is here for me. In just a few hours I will be able to change my status from pre-op to post op. My loser status will be in full affect. I can't wait, but I have to. Reading everyone's experiences has really helped me to focus on this process. Let's do this!!!

Thank you for you wishes. I leave for the hospital in five minutes!!! Totally excited. My mouth is completely dry from not being able to eat or drink anything for 12 hours...grrrrr. I'm not nervous at all...I think my excitement is overwhelming my fear!

Aloha Everybody,

A quick update on my surgery. My surgeon said everything went really well. He was extremely happy with my sleeve and I seem to be recovering faster than the other two patients that were scheduled that day. I didn't have a single incision. He tried to do it through my belly button, but I guess the way my "belly flap" was it was causing problems...so I have 3 little incisions under my left breast. It is very small and doesn't bother me very much.

The pain is getting better, but I have to admit I thought it would be easier. It was easier in the hospital when they could just inject morphine through my iv. Now, I have to down the liquid vicodin I was prescribed. I don't know how everyone consumes the Protein, Water, and meds. I can barely get down any of it. I am trying real hard too. I can say that every day is 10x better than the last. My belly still hurts, but it is tolerable. I am barely taking the vicodin anymore...probably more because I have to drink it than anything else.

As far as nausea goes, I've only thrown up a couple times. It wasn't because of drinking. I think it was because the phlegm lingering in my throat. I am very careful because vomiting hurts and I don't want to do it...ever!

All is well I would say. I know it will be worth it.

I'm glad everything went well! Congratulations on your journey!

I don't have suggestions for the pain as I a lucky one. Walking is essential to alleviate the gas.

Good luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
