Hi everyone,

I was researching Protein powders, and I ran across this Syntrax Matrix 5.0 in orange cream, bananas & cream and strawberry & cream. This is not whey Protein isolate, but whey protein concentrate, casein-rich milk protein concentrate, and egg white protein. Is this acceptable to use post-operative?

I am 8 weeks out and still dependent of Protein drinks to get most of my protein, and I'd like to try these flavors. Thoughts?

Thanks for your help!

G.

I believe casein Protein is a slow absorbing protein. According to the below link it forms a gel or clot in the stomach which can take several hours to be digested. That doesn't sound good for a sleeved stomach to me. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casein

Somebody else here has posted about good results with this. The 5.0 stands for the five-pound bag. You might come across a 2.0, which is for the two-pound container. I think have the slow absorbing Protein would be good for keeping satisfied longer.

On a side note, I just remembered that my tracking info showed that the two Syntrax Matrix containers were supposed to have been delivered today. (Vanilla and Chocolate) I didn't see them on the front step when I got home today and forgot about them. Must be a new FedEx driver who stuck them next to a side door. I've been using the Syntrax Nectar and really like those.

This is the thread where Sleeve Master was talking about how he likes Syntrax Matrix.

Syntrax Matrix is the only one I use now. I like all the flavors, except banana. The banana is very bland. the mint cookie is fabulous, even though it has 20 more calories.

I have orange cream (I add more orange torini Syrup to that one)

chocolate

vanilla

mint cookie (it has little chopped up cookie pieces in it) delish!)

Sytrax is a very good Protein powder. they are the same company that makes the nectar drinks everyone likes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
