My daughters have the band and one weighs over 300 lbs the other is doing ok, but is saving her money for sleeve this summer. The fills run near $300 where we live and the vomiting is a sure bet. On a more negative aspect of the band read my profile story. So far the sleeve is a God send, but I'm only 7 weeks out so, we'll see.

Good luck!

Hi! I'm the same stats as you and am just starting the process (I'm pre-op). I looked into the band and the bypass a couple of years ago and was turned off by both. 4 months ago I learned about the sleeve and all the things that turned me off of the other WLS were not factors in sleeve surgery (such as having a port & having to go for fills, or having my insides totally rearranged & having to take supplements for ever). You're smart to be researching, as this is an individual choice --- I can only say what I feel is right for me. But I do have to say that there are plenty of folks on here who are having their band changed to the sleeve. Unfortunately, it's often the case that the band has slipped and caused damage.

I did the band first in 2007 , and now I was just sleeved on jan24. I did lose the weight at first with the band then I did gain most of it back . I didnt like if I took one wrong bite it would ruin my whole meal . I had a lot of vomiting cause my food would get stuck. When I was starving I would eat too fast. I was still able to eat as much as I wanted because I never had the full feeling. You become wise to what you can eat healthy or not . As of right now, I would recommend the sleeve over the band . I am only one week post op and really happy. Im still on Clear Liquids and truthfully Im not physically hungry just head hungry. And I like knowing that this is forever . Maybe someone feels different . Good luck :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
