NevadaDave 66 Posted October 30, 2013 Currently weight 403. Surgery scheduled for dec 2. What do you think is key to losing the large numbers on the scale? My advise is don't worry about it. you are going to loose the weight. use the time after surgery to break any food addictions you may have, so don't push resuming your comfort foods. In my case I lost all interest in food. Remember its not a numbers game Its a new life thing. I am 11 months out and lost 255 pounds coming from 511. Good Luck 2 Tank-norcal and jenngottaloseit reacted to this

I think one of my biggest fears is they'll get in there not be able to do it. But I also have a 2-3 week liquid diet that I'll loose something on. 1 SassySenior reacted to this

NevadaDave 66 Posted October 30, 2013 you didn't stay overnight in hospital? No didn't need to, I felt great, and my doctor does a scope after surgery so there was no need to do the leak test the next day 1 SassySenior reacted to this
mba68 10 Posted October 31, 2013 I Would have to agree. . Now is the time to allow yourself to re-program from the bad habits that made us over weight. Your not going to go into surgery and wake up @ 120 pounds. However, you have been given a constant support tool. As of to date from my 07/31/13 sleeve. I am down to 320 from 425. I am still learning, but happy 2 JamesGz and SassySenior reacted to this
MSCoastRPh 11 Posted November 1, 2013 Starting wt 3/2012-412 lbs Wt day of surgery 12/13/12-325.5lbs Wt today (10/21/13)-237lbs Total loss so far-175 lbs This has not been an easy journey and the battle to lose will continue for quite a while longer for me! I exercise 7 days/wk almost every week. I lift weights 6 days/wk and do at least 30 min of cardio every day. I am in a size large top and size 16 pants in some things and 18 in others. I would do the surgery again in a heartbeat if I had it to do over. Hope this helps some who haven't had surgery yet but have as much to lose as I did. It is doable-just don't get frustrated and expect it to happen overnight. It took time to get to the weight we were and will take more to get healthy! Best if luck to all! blackcloudkygirl 46 Posted November 5, 2013 (edited) Hi. I started at 438lbs and the surgeon put me on a 4 week liquid diet, along with nutrition classes, so by surgery time I was down to 366lbs. My surgery was June 3, 2013 and I am now down to 270lbs as of today, Nov 6, 2013...this is 167lbs down...I love my sleeve! I feel great, it was the best decision of my life. Good luck! sbarbiegirl 109 Posted November 23, 2013 I started at 410. I was sleeved 09.27.13. Only eight weeks out. I hit 349 this morning. Still have a long way to go. I love my sleeve. Just wished I'd done it sooner. Zero complications. I finally feel normal. Not worrying when to start the next diet or what I'm going to eat next! 1 JamesGz reacted to this
SassySenior 111 Posted November 24, 2013 Congratulations to all of you. What a great testament you are to what is possible when you decide to take advantage of a great tool and make a commitment to yourself to use it to its full advantage. My highest weight was 431, and I distinctly remember my doctor at the time saying something like, "well, we really need to do something about this." That may have been when I woke up and said, "hell, yes!" I had my surgery Nov. 1, just 3 weeks ago. Prior to surgery, I lost 67 lbs, and another 5 since, for a total loss to date of 72 lbs. If anyone told me I was gonna lost 72 lbs. I would have been almost as shocked as if someone had told me I was gonna gain over 400 lbs. Both pretty un-f**king believable. But it seems that once you make a commitment to go down this road, you follow a predestined path (med. supv'd diet, etc.) and next thing you know, you're dropping lbs. Beginning with the pre-op liquid starvation diet and up till now ... the "mushies" soft food diet, it's all kinda hard, but somehow I manage to do it one day at a time. The days mount up and before I know it, I'm past the last difficult stage. It's a little harder when you don't cook and have little creativity when it comes to putting a pureed meal together. In fact, I'm lucky if I can get in 300 calories a day now. A friend took pity on me and bought me a blender. She's coming over tomorrow to see what tasty?? treats she can whip up for me. Any suggestions appreciated. 2 JamesGz and Aggie72 reacted to this

sleevedsilly 2 Posted December 19, 2013 (edited) Hello. I was 406 at first weighin. I was 375 at surgery three years ago. I went down to 285 and got pregnant before the honeymoon was over. I am currently 320 pounds. Sometimes I feel like a failure, because my personal goal was 180. However, most times I know that if I think really hard about it, my sleeve has been a tool that prevented me from dying. My eating habits are atrocious and I've broken a lot of rules but am still at 86 pound loss. When I work out my emotional sabatoge issues and get back on track my sleeve will still be here and for it I'm grateful. I was at a point presurgery where I broke chairs and couldn't tie my own shoes. Now I'm just fat. I've considered the possibility of bypass as a revision but I want to follow the rules and exercise and get back on track instead. My two complaints are that my hair has thinned out (I used to have very thick hair) and my teeth!! I have had two root canals after baby and my dentist says my teeth are demineralizing. Also, I'm freezing all the time but that's not so bad. I am not one of those amazing success stories you read about all over the internet but am still grateful. Most times no one cares about stories like mine and I think that's why some people disappear from forums like this. If you have any questions I would help to the best of my ability. SassySenior 111 Posted December 29, 2013 Sleevedsilly - I believe you when you say you're going to get back on track. You did it once, and you can do it again. I think it's very brave of you to post the truth and applaud you for it. When I was 431, my eating habits were bad, too. I wouldn't say atrocious, because if that were the case, I would have weighed a lot more than 431. But once I began to gain from taking steroids after chemo, it seemed all hell broke loose. I was always thin or normal before that. The #1 thing that helped me begin a weight loss journey is that I began logging in everything I ate into MyFitnessPal.com It's a hard thing to be that honest ... with yourself ... to look in black and white at the cold, hard fact of not just what you ate, but the nutritional stats. I was willing, maybe for the first time, to be accountable for what I put it my mouth. That was the beginning of my weight loss journey. Today, nearly 2 months post op, I am down 99 lbs. I didn't really do anything special other than that. So best of luck to you. I know you can do it, you just have to make a commitment to yourself.
