Over 400Lbs Gastric Sleeve Success Story

Recommended Posts

Hello

I am currently thinking about having the vsg and I am about 446lbs! I want to know if there is anyone that was or know someone. who was over 400lbs and did awesome with the sleeve. My surgeon suggest bypass and that scares the crap out of me!

My journey began with me weighing 449 lbs. I didn't have gastric bypass. You're in charge of your body. If it's not right for you please don't let your surgeon push you into it. Many people are just as successful with VSG even when they come from the hjgher weights. More consideration and research time is alotted to anyone who isn't sure. If I can offer you anything constructive or helpful please let me know.

Peace

Hello Everyone!!!

Wow! I never thought that a little question I had would spark so much attention from all different kinds of people who all relate in this way. I am really proud of you all and the inspiration that was not only given to me but also to thousands of hopefuls. Thanks you!

An update on me. I haven't had the surgery as of yet ???? I have had a few "road blocks" with insurance and a illness that took top priority. The illness I had and still can happen again, has to a lot to do with being overweight and my insurance(bcbs) stated they would cover the surgery if it's medically necessary but even with 3 different doctors letters still denied me, twice.

So now with new insurance I found a doctor that will do the surgery and charge the insurance for a hitial hernia and I am waiting for the 1st for the plan to be effective. I hope no challenges will arise but I came this far and I will not give up on myself!

Again, thanks everyone for your encouraging stories and let's continue to FIGHT THE FAT together!!

My HW at the beginning of October was 491 and my weight on surgery day (Dec 17) was 422. I am sitting just under 350 right now almost 6 months from my HW and feel I have hit a slow down (not a stall) my only advice is anecdotal and that is that my weight loss slowed when I began eating two Quest bars a day instead of two shakes. I really think the sugar alcohols are to blame and am transitioning off of them doing only one a day or every other day until they are gone. I feel in the past two weeks it has really helped. We will see what this week brings. I am finishing the ones I have and then only using them in a pinch. I may PM you later as I do not have facebook and would love to keep in touch!

Reading all your stories is very inspirational. I am in the middle of getting my Pre Reqs out of the way right now, I had my Upper GI yesterday, have a Phych consult on the 20th , then meet with the surgeon again on OCT 4th. I am 424 lbs and my highest weight was 460 . I am currently working on losing more weight and am starting to replace meals with the Protein Shakes. I cannot wait till I have success stories like all of you here!!!

I started my WLS journey at a starting weight of 456. When I went to the surgery seminar I weighed in at 411. At the Surgeons office I weighed 404. My sleeve surgery is on February 14th. Two days from surgery I weigh 371. I want this journey to keep rolling on.

Just hit 399... first time in 6 years I've been under 400... My HW was 460 on July 1st when I started my pre-op. 61lbs in 7 weeks and change... not too bad. Feeling great.

Congrats to everyone! I had my sleeve done on July 19th. I am about 2 months out now. I started at 441 and and currently at 374. This is one of the hardest things I have ever done. I have to keep telling myself that it will all be worth it in the end.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
