Why can I still eat alot????

Recommended Posts

Ok I am so totally confused now...I was banded on October 18th, I have lost so far 25 lbs (which includes the 2 weeks before surgery when I was on a total liquid diet) I am now in week 3, eating somewhat normal food, and I am exercising like an hour a day, 4 miles of walking every other day and strength training every other, I have actually gained a pound, BUT

I feel like i can keep eating, and eating and eating. I don't get it I thought I was supossed to have a full feeling after like 1/2 a cup, not me

Will I feel full after my first fill? (nov 25)?

I am starting to get scared that this is not going to work for me.

Any advise or similar stories?:think

What you are feeling is normal. The time between your surgery and being filled is for healing, not dieting. Most lose litte to no weight during this time, or even gain. Once your swelling goes down from your surgery, you are pretty much wide open like you were prior to getting the band. Just be patient, once you get your fills and reach proper restriction, the weight will come off.

I am cutting and pasting this from another post I responded to....

When I was first banded, I felt las if I could eat way too much also. It was so hard for me the first several weeks. In the beginning, 95% of my weight loss after surgery was due to my will power. I had to keep reminding myself that the band was my last hope, and that I just couldn't mess it up. It was not until my 2nd fill that I finally felt restriction. But everyone is different (A lot of people say they feel it after the first fill).

When you feel like you are eating too much, remind yourself of how much it means for you to be successful this time. I promise it will get easier. Talk to your doctor and drink A LOT of Water... it really does help to fill you.

Good luck and keep us posted.

As of right now, you have a tool inserted but not yet turned to the 'on' position. After the swelling goes down, you are on your own til you get a fill or two or three and get good restriction. You just have to act like a grown up and do what you gotta do til you get it operational.

Practice following the rules, don't worry about losing weight yet. Sounds like you are very motivated and will do just fine when all is up and going!!

Ditto what everyone said. Don't expect restriction right away.

During the healing phase, I was thankful I could eat anything. It gave me a chance to practice doing things right, chewing my food 25 times, taking small bites, eating Protein, etc.

Also, you have lots alot of weight already. Your body needs some time to adjust. I think the slower the weight loss, the easier it is to keep it off forever. (and less flabby skin) Good luck. Celeste

That is one of the best ways to explain the post-surgery but pre-fill stage!

Quick question, when does the post-op swelling completely disappear? Occasionally I get the tiniest thing stuck at the end of my throat, while not uncomfortable is rather annoying. I'm thinking it has to be swelling and my stomach seems a little tight too. BTW I am 12 days post op. Thanks!

I was banded three weeks ago and feel the same way. I was told by the Doc, after the swelling goes down, some faster than others, that I am wide open to the larger part of my stomach. He said after the first fill I would feel some restriction. Cuz, Im hungry too! Hang in there!! Let me know if you have gotten your first fill. Mine isn't till the 17th!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
