Hi, I had the sleeve done 1 week ago today and I feel very "not normal". That is the best way to explain it. I took 6 months of classes and asked every question and researched everything and thought this is what I need to do now I am not so sure I was right. I seem to have alot of guilt of the choice I made and I keep asking the question "what have I dont to myself". I read alot of people postings on the question before surgery and thought "that won't happen to me" but it has. I am worried something can still go wrong or what if they find out something about this surgery later??? I was soooo excited to have this done because I have always been chubby or fat and it was always on my mind everyday. I would go on extreme diets and loose wieght and then gain it all back again. I am still on liquids for another week and I am hoping I will feel more "Normal" as the weeks go on. Does anyone else feel like this?

Thanks,Heather

HI Heather,

I think it is completely "normal" to feel this way initially. The reality is you had major surgery, you are not quite yourself yet. Your body is adjusting. I am 7 weeks out, and for the first week, I didn't feel bad.. just not normal. I was overly aware and nervous about every noise my body was making.Every move I made I was timid, not knowing how it would effect me. I felt I spent the entire day counting my Fluid and Protein shake intake. And you know what, I did. lol but it got better...

After the first week, normalcy started to return. I wasn't as sore and my new sleeve wasn't making the gurgling noises I had gotten accustomed to. I could drink more and with ease. Walking definitely helped, being off pain meds made me feel more like myself too. I only took the meds for a day once I was home, but felt it took a few days to get them and the anesthesia out of my system.

Give it a little time. Search the forum, you will see a bunch of us had the same type of experiences. We can do all the research we want and it still cannot compare to living it to understand exactly how it will feel.

Good luck!

Honestly, I think the first week is the hardest -- you are still aching and sore, your food choices are so limited which make you question your decision. Give it some time and remember this is a positive life choice.

I can say my decision to be sleeved was one of the best things I have ever done for myself.

"that won't happen to me" but it has.

Heather

welcome newbie :)

not sure i understand - did you have a problem during surgery - immediately after???

if you did, please tell us about it

if you didn't - that is great

recovery is/can be hard to deal with - feeling in the dumps? hurting - feeling some remorse "what have i done"??

" I am worried something can still go wrong or what if they find out something about this surgery later??? "

easier said than done - but you can't/shouldn't worry about what "MIGHT" happen - don't dwell on maybe's"

As Jersey said "you just had major surgery" its hard to feel "normal" right away

all of us heal/recovery differently - some are better in a few days, no problems, back to work

1 week after surgery, it is "normal" not to feel well, sore :( "

hopefully sooner than later - you WILL feel better

you must give your body time to heal - your tummy was invaded - 85% of your tummy is now gone!!!

"it" might be saying "OMG what have you done to me"???!!

try not to 2nd guess your wise decision to have the sleeve

speaking for most/all of us sleevers, - we all yo yo'd, up and down like you - lost the weight only to regain

with the "help/assistance" of the sleeve - you are on your way to a healthier happier life

take care

feel better :)

Give it time, after first month you start to feel like a "normal person" I was sleeved Dec 10th 2012, I finally do feel normal. Heck my fiancé and I went out for crawfish the other night and it was my first meal I didn't feel sick or like I wasted money. It's a day to day process that I'm sure soon enough you'll be grateful you took you health in your hands, diets fail us but a life change is an amazing tool.

Hi, thanks for the responses, I hope you are all right and I will feel better when I do have more choices. My recovery was wonderful so far, no nausea just some soreness from incisions and have been off pain mess for 4 days now. Maybe when I can eat dinner again with my family I will feel more "normal"

Thanks again, Heather

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
