I'm still in the hospital, and of course I woke up from surgery super overwhelmed. I have to say though, this was a great decision, and I feel great about everything. I'm still a bit gassy from the surgery, and it's painful, but time will tell if this was all worth it.

Please keep me in your thought while I go into my 2nd night at the hospital.

xoxo AJ

Indeed! They are for two different things. I think you'll get relief once you try them. Good luck!

Walking really helped me. I walked all around the hospital floor I was staying on. Faithfully every 2 hrs i would do a lap or 2. It didnt last long for me thank goodness! I can sympathize tho, those gas pains are the worst! Good luck! :)

Congrats on your new sleeve! The gas-x helped one of the other gals that was sleeved the same day as me, but it just caused me discomfort. Try it and see if it helps. What worked best for me was walking every single chance I got. I did laps and laps of the hospital and by the time I left the hospital the gas was no longer an issue. For a day or two, ouch! The gas loves to settle in my left shoulder whenever I have a lap surgery and it's no fun.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

I walked the hospital, took Gas X Strips, and I place a heating pad on my lower back. That seem to relieve my gas pressure and help me to release it. Good luck

I was so happy I took my heating pad to MX and the hospital with me. It was a life saver with the gas! Walking helps a lot too. I walked for 15 minutes every hour and gas was gone by two days.

Throwing up and having a heard time getting liquids is completely normal for the first few days. There is a lot of swelling in you esophagus and stomach and that will cause the vomiting and pain when drinking. Take it slow and sip, sip, sip all day.

Good luck and soon you'll be right as rain and wondering if you really had surgery!

You guys are all so wonderful and supportive with the advice!

Now for another question:

Is feeling a teensy bit light-headed after standing up normal at all? Did anyone else experience this? Did it go away once you started the pureed foods (stage 2) for the post-op diet?

Thanks again,

xoxo AJ

Hi! I just had my surgery 1/28 as well and I just had my one week follow up today. My dr did mention some dizziness when standing is normal, it can also mean you are not getting enough Protein. I have to try to walk more since I have been having some shoulder pain. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
