Did anyone have an ivc filter put in to help blood clots? I went to see my cardiologist today and he said the surgeon recommends it.

I've not heard of that, but my surgeon told me that he would give me meds to help with blood clot prevention

I'm kind of nervous about it but I told him that I would get it. I will just have bit removed when I'm suppose to.

I didn't have it but was told I might need it (but I dropped 20 pounds on my own pre op so the surgeon felt my BMI I was low enough- since I was over 60 at my biggest) anyway it is usually placed through a vein in the neck and is a minimally invasive procedure. It basically looks like a little umbrella that is open in your vein and its purpose it to catch blood clots before it get to tour heart. When I was told I may need one the first thing I did was YouTube it and I advise against that. You'll only worry yourself like I did lol. After surgery it's usually removed before 60 days. It's less scary then it seems from what some have told me. Hope that helps :)

Not sure why you would need that? They can give subcutaneous heparin or small dose blood thinners to prevent you from having potential clots. It was never offered to me, that's another procedure in itself. I was given the injection shots.

I think I may ask my doctor to give me the shot. I don't think I want the ivc it sounds scary from the research of it

They didnt even mention the heparin to me until I was 30 mins before surgery. Guess each hospital has their own form of clot care

Well if you sleep and the clot hits your heart. You won't be able to blood thinners then

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
