Hey ladies and Gents,

Are you guys tiref me yet? lol

I have a question. My surgery as you all know is tomorrow at 3 and My Doc did not require a pre op diet or any kind of prep before hand.

I just had a BLT on sourdough panini type bread ( not as big) and no mayo cuz I hate it and I had my last little tiny cup of B&J's Choc fudge brownie Ice cream sohere it is,

Will all of that clear my stomach by the time I have my surgery I am thinking yes but what if I dont goo the bathroom will it still be okay since he isnt working on my intestines?

I am just a bundle of nerves andI just know Peace and calm will wash over me tomorrow. ( I hope)

Thanks all

Jan

Strange that your doctor doesn't have you on a no food after midnight at least prior to surgery. Usually that's for any surgery that involves anesthesia I thought. I would play in on the safe side and not eat anything after 3 a.m. So hopefully your stomach will be empty. Good luck with your surgery!

I thought you had to do complete liquids before any surgery at all for twenty four hours! But he is the doc, wait they didnt give you any milk of magnesia to clear out your bowls before surgery?!

My sister's surgeon didn't required her to do the pre-op diet either and there are different versions around, too. I agree with the nothing after midnight standard. sleep as late as possible and you can get away with a little Water if you get up early. Give an hr window. The goal is to shrink the liver and empty the stomach to minimize risks/complications during surgery. Tearing the liver while lifting it out of the way, converting surgery from laproscopic to whatever the word is for when they cut you open. Typically not issues, but many drs. attempt to minimize risks as much as possible. But even then, stuff can happen, so....

Not everyone is prescribed the same pre-op diet, even if they are using the same doctor. A lot depends on your BMI, regular diet, comorbidities, etc. As long as you followed what your surgeon prescribed for you, you should be fine. I do agree with definitely no food after midnight the night before your surgery.

I am shocked no bowel prep or anything! I have to go Clear Liquids and do the bowel prep to have everything empty! My surgeon is fellowshiped trained at Duke. I am so excited to have found one with such credentials! If you've not picked a surgeon try to get one fellowship trained! Huge difference

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
