In Need of Lap Band Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi All, I have been very ill with congestive heart failure, sleep apnea and the complications of severe pheumonia and weight gain. I hope that someone out there might be able to help. Due to my circumstances, my doctor has given me a referral and actually recommended the Lap Band Procedure. My problem, I have not been able to find a Doctor who accepts medi-cal as payment. Please, if any one has any suggestions or help in finding a physician I would be most appreciative. I dont know what else to do.

There was someone on here wanting to help pay for someone's banding that couldn't afford it just a few days ago, maybe that would be a route to try. My heart is with you, my insurance company turned me down and I was self pay in Mexico and after 4 fills and I have to stay overnight with each one I've got into the 20,000.00 cash mark and I know how hard it is. Keep trying and let all of us know if there's anything we can help you with. Congrats on your decision and keep in touch.

I looked around on the MediCal web site. If you type Bariatric in the search it pops up a few places that do the surgery I am sure if you call them they might accept MediCal. You can always call and see.

Hope that helps

Good luck

Here's what I was talking about, I found it. Might be worth looking to. Just trying to help.

FREE lap band update

First off we'd like to thank everyone for their input on this gift of life as someone called it. We have turned all the legal issues over to our lawyer, he would like to see us make a loan to someone at say 2% interest over 10 years instead of just giving it away. Which we have not totally decide against this idea so....

We have decide to start the process by asking everyone interested to write a essay telling about themselves all the whatfors whys and how comes, tell us anything you might think will help our decision and why we should pick you.

We also want you to know a little about us. Some have called us angels but really we're just normal people like you and yours. We have 3 children, 2 in college. We live in the Pacific Northwest in a small community. I am a stay at home mom and my husband drives truck, so you see we are not rich by any means, we just feel compelled to, as someone said, save a life.

The biggest reason I think we decided to do this, after great discussion with our children is I read a post on this site (by I think Full of grace) of her pastor being in a fatal car crash due to the seat belt not fitting, I cried for hours after reading this and I asked myself what can I do to help a family not have to go thru this kind of tragedy. That's when I came up with this idea.

So get your fingers going and drop a us a pm. The person we pick will be notified by on DEC 25th.

We will keep posting to let you all know how its going. There will be a deadline date of DEC 15th, 2006

God Bless all. Amom & Adad

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
