You still have not said what test they did when you went across the street to the hospital? I am really unclear on exactly what test ? Xray etc. they did to have told you this? Please clarify so we can understand better what happened? This is kind of spooky I have never heard of this before.

The barium test is a standard practice among surgeons who specialize in gastric surgeries. It is the best way to ensure there isn't even the slightest leak. It's done within the first 24 hours this way if anything is even detected they can fix it asap instead of waiting for the problem to come up later on. I knew about having the test before I had the surgery it was explained to me ahead of time.

This is no longer true. My surgeon performs the leak test immediately after creating the sleeve, while the patient is still on the table. There was no barium test after as there is no need for one. I have seen many others here say the same.

After reading a bunch of insignificant banter, I don't understand why so outrageous comments. The OP definitely has something wrong going on. She came here to share here story in hopes of support maybe a similar story to hers. I had to read a bunch of pages to see if she had found out anything from the second opinion. I'd be upset if I were her. She is seeking out professional help. I would hate for this thread to be closed as I feel for her and want to know the outcome. One thing I have learned through my journey is not all doctors plans and procedures are equal.

I believe I had at least 10 ounces of liquid on my tray the morning after my leak test. Was dying of thirst and was not allowed anything by mouth until that test was done the day after. My tray had a double popsicle, Water, tea, Jello and broth. It may have been a cup of each. I had the broth, all of it and the popsicle and as much water as I could handle. No Protein at all. I don't think chicken bullion is really substantial protein. I was told to get in my fluids and as much protein those first two weeks but not to fret over it. One only can do the best they can. I was told to really get the protein in after those 2 weeks.

Seems like the OP was following her plan, but could obviously get in much more than the typical post op sleeve patient. I don't think seeking out here for some constructive support is wrong. She's scared and frustrated. I wish her all the best and a good answer to her problem. Yes, it is hard to comprehend her situation, but strange things happen in surgery. Rare, yet there's always an odd story out there.

I do hope she posts an update!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
