Today i found out that i streched my pouch

My leak test was also done in surgery. Which to me makes much better sense -- why wait until you are out of surgery to detect a leak? If there is a leak then it's back to surgery. It also saves the patient from having to go through what appears to be a pretty miserable experience ( based on what I've read on VST). Just my opinion.

I had three leak tests; one during surgery and two after.

I don't know what that is. Wheni asked what else can be done. She said I can set up a special plan with the nut that will be a special case for me. But I will ask them tomorrow

What is a stomophy X. Never heard of it. Just tried to Google it, but nothing came up. Nevertheless, I wouldn't let this "nut" do one more thing with my body. Go to a reputatble surgeon who has proven track record for performing surgery and get a second opinion. It should be fairly easy to determine whether the surgery was done at all, or done incorrectly. If you find out that the surgery was done incorrectly make you next stop to a good attorney; then call AETNA and get them all the information they need e.g. second opinion information so they can go after him too and, work with you to get this straightened out. IJS... I live in MD and I had my surgery performed at Wash Hospital Center, not my preference but that's where my doc's practice is. His name is Dr. Brebbia. The general office staff left a lot to be desired, but the physician's group and nutritionist were very knowledgeable and methodical about their business. They very definitely took their business seriously. The have a whole group of physician's associated with their practice with different specialities. You are in NoVa, so it's a thought. Good luck, be patient, but be persistent.

The barium test is a standard practice among surgeons who specialize in gastric surgeries. It is the best way to ensure there isn't even the slightest leak. It's done within the first 24 hours this way if anything is even detected they can fix it asap instead of waiting for the problem to come up later on. I knew about having the test before I had the surgery it was explained to me ahead of time. Now for me I drink Muscle Milk for my Protein. It's 310 calories for 32 grams of protein even drinking that 5 times a day would put u at 1550 calories in just shakes alone. Then add in food. In order to gain 20 pounds in under 7 weeks you would need to average 3 pound weight gain a week. There is no way unless drinking weight gainer protein that someone ONLY 7 weeks out gains that type of weight AND there surgeon tells them they stretched out there sleeve. You CAN NOT stretch out that sleeve on a basic liquid diet it's physically impossible. I have to agree with others that if her surgeon did a sleeve on her and told her that then she needs to see a different surgeon to ensure he is being honest with her in the surgery that he did and 2 that it was performed properly and correctly.

The research no longer supports that a leak test reduces your risk of having a leak. This is why so many surgeons are no longer performing this test. There are other surgeons who do perform the test despite the evidence that it does not correlate to better outcomes. Malpractice is a huge motivator! At Dartmouth, we have one surgeon who chooses not to perform the leak test and two others who do perform the leak test. So, this varies and each surgeon and/or practice may buy into a different approach.

In northern va. My surgery was at 9 I was in revelry u til 4. Woke extremely hungry but the urad wouldn't let me eat until the doctor came. He didnt come until the next morning he told me I didn't have to take the leak test and I could eat. I had two cups of chicken broth and one orange Jello and a cup of lemon crystal light. I will remember this forever. And that is be ause the nurse kept telling me I was the only one able to eat and walk for 20 mins or more. I litteray felt like I hadn't had anything done. I thought it was because of my age and because I have never been a lazy person. I'm a do it your self type girl.

I'm sorry to hear this .. That was way too much for your first time eating

I I almost forgot I haven't found 1 surgeon who doesn't order a barium swallow upper gi X-ray to ENSURE you don't have a leak that is standard practice in EVERY US hospital

I still have to read about 10 pages but my surgeon and a few others I've heard of do not require the swallow test. They will only test if they have reason to believe their is a leak.

Some surgeons do the leak test while there in there they spray with fluids and if it bubbles up there's a leak .. I've heard of ppl haven't it done this way

Stomaphyx is Bariatric revision for Gastric Bypass patients who are regaining weight. Not something that would be performed on a Gastric Sleeve Patient. People typically get this when they have stretched their pouch. Sleevers have less likelihood of doing so.

I call BS on the OP original post. Point. Blank. To the Period! Lol I don't come here necessarily for support or to give it. I like to read other people accounts...follow their journeys. Sometimes I just like to be plain old nosey. But If this site is a persons ONLY source Of support' date=' they are in for a rude awakening. That's like someone who is socially inept seeking moral support on Facebook or twitter. Bottom line...don't come on Here expecting EVERYONE to play the violin while you tell your sad sob "story" and in this case...a lie[/quote']

Say something useful ..if it was you then what ?

I must admit. Im VERY SKEPTICAL of her story...HOWEVER...if there's any truth behind it...she needs to get a second medical opinion and possibly legal advice. This website is like any other social networking site. There's much more to people behind the screen...

Sent from my iPad using VST

I have to admit I dont believe a word of that story. I apologize if I am wrong, but if she could eat all that in the hospital the doctor would have checked that before she left. I just dont believe this story.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
