Recommended Posts

Right after my surgery I cudnt eat a thing let alone over 4oz of anything! They only Gave me broth frozen lemon ice and Apple juice anyway and you know how much I ate of that? ! One spoon full of broth and I was done literally! I'm so sorry about your experience but hopefully they will get this problem fixed for you. Your dr had to have done something wrong here.

Ok he really is one of the top <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' /> cuz he's the guy who saved my life LOL

By the way' date=' he did do a barium swallow on me after surgery more than once, but there was a reason for it as he was repairing a nasty leak from another surgeon's issues. But they aren't standard and VM surgeon's are VERY VERY VERY good!!![/quote']

Thankyou for clearing it up he is really good. I asked him about Barium after reading on this site he said its not necessary for every patient I was scared I thought they might forgot the test :)

LW' date='

There is a bit of a misunderstanding here.

In this case, Iggy was not being snarky. Your surgeon really was the one who came to her rescue when she went through her ordeal.[/quote']

Thanks :)

I was sleeved on Dec 26 by Dr. Nain and Dr. Dockins. This was my experience.

1, I had ice chips until day 2, wasnt allowed to have anything else

2 On day 2 I could have Clear Liquids. When I went home I was allowed full liquids, like she said.

3in another post she stated that she eats this in a day :

I realize I haven't loss be ause I am on mushy/soft but I have been eating mushy/ whatever I am want.

"Breakfast I am ok I usual eat a instant oatmeal mixed with Greek yogurt

With 2 Protein I between .

Lunch is the same chicken salad or something like it.

But dinner or the problem I can eat shrimp or hamburger with pepper gravy and broccoli or chicken breast.

So my question is what are some things you eat for dinner I need more choices.

Also I get hungry in the middle of the day what do you eat for Snacks?

Ps my doc said NO rice Pasta or bread, or strawberries grapes oranges or apples

I don't get sick when I eat I is the 45/45/45 rule instead of 30.

Any suggestions"

But then says she lives with someone who will tell her if she is eating wrong! " Gravy" Isnt a good food. We got a binder with the foods we should eat and Im pretty sure Gravy isnt on that list.

4. Doctors cut her open and she had absolutely no pain? Please!!!

5. On your first visit back to talk to the nut and the NP they show you a pic of "old" Stomach sitting next to your "new" stomach inside of you still. This is Dr. Nains trademark the nurse told me. She should know that she had it done because of that.

6. In my post op paperwork it told me that if I started gaining weight like that I need to call right away because something would be wrong. She has already been back to the drs office before this visit where they would have looked at what is going on!

If you ask me it sounds like a catfish/troll who's roommate got a surgery and thinks she knows enough to come here and make everyone start fighting.

I am sorry if I seem rude to anyone , but this is my Dr. and I wont have someone smearing his name just to get attention.

7. "SO FEEL FRRE TO KISS MY ASS. i HATE THAT i CAME HERE FOR ADVICE BUT NOW i GETTING BEATING UP LIKE I AM LYING. I DONT NEED ATTENTION. I HAVE THAT AT HOME." From who your roommate?

8.I dont know if all docs put the pain pumps in the same spot , but hers looks waaay lower than mine was on her pic. This could be for any reason I am sure but same dr same placement I would think!

Iggy I am sorry to say I don't like your attitude I am a senior VP for Wells Fargo in WA market and has been in banking for 5 plus years so in banking the first thing that we teach is to be respectful to every one. This has been a pattern of yours that you come out swinging. Your remark about top 10 surgeon were referring to me and I don't appreciate it . I did my due diligence that's why I wrote about my surgeon. I know you are a senior Member and have contributed a lot here and I appreciate that but sometimes it's the way you write and come across as very arrogant and immature.I remember the other thread about the girl who was telling her sisters story and the doubts every one had and you and a few other people argued back and forth in the end you apologized . It's nothing personal but please be considerate to everyone when you go on personal attacks or just make cracks.I know you had bad experience with your surgery and i am very sorry .you naturally jump on the victims team and fight everyone who have any doubts. Also you always say that you had the same issue as victim which might be true due to the complications that you had endured.Just for your information I feel sorry for this lady who gained weight and I believe her story 100% .I still don't know what kind of surgery she had but I believe that she gained weight but scientifically its impossible and that's what everyone's concern is. Also I totally agree with you that a lot of smart remarks by some of the members are totally not necessary .

I'm sorry you misunderstood my post. I too was a Senior VP at a large bank. I also was a speaker and consultant for the OCC (Did a lot of work with your bank actually) and learned quickly that sometimes people read too much in to the written word. For instance, I was commenting in general about the thread, not specifically pointing you out. BTW, Dr. Hunter was one of Seattle's top docs and has been written up as a top ten doc more than once, but there is NO definitive top ten list of bariatric surgeons :) Every agency and magazine and region puts one out and the total of doctors on that list does add up beyond ten. That's all I was saying. This was after reading three threads where people point out their doc is the top in the nation...it wasn't all about you :) Sorry you took it that way.

I do like to support victims of tragedies associated with this surgery. Much like others who have great outcomes jump on that bandwagon, or those who have binging issues jump on that one, etc. We all have our passions. None of these people deserve to feel so badly about their posts that they come back and post an angry (I could read the hurt and frustration) post as this OP has felt the need to do. It's HURTFUL to have a bunch of strangers jump down your throat when you have a legitimate issue. It could be an issue with her doc, (Sounds like others who have gone there don't have this experience though) or her Nut, or her understanding of the post op process (ie the high calorie and high Protein choices). I don't think she's a liar, I think she's lost and needs help so I'm just saying that beating her up is unfair.

We have a poster here saying that all the real docs do Barium swallows....that's obviously not true as you didn't have one. There is a medical theory that they can actually cause more harm than good in many cases as they can stress the newly closed stomach, which is why many aren't doing it anymore, and yet someone's fabulous doc says only good docs do it right? Im just saying...walk on by if all you have to contribute is beating her up, or the horror story, or anyone who's suffered a different outcome than the lucky people have.

BTW, being an SVP just makes you a person who has responsibility on the job. It's not really valid here is it? Unless maybe you were inferring I was of a lower position and should learn from you :) Obviously that's me reading too much into your post so I'll assume you wouldn't be saying it for that reason to give you the benefit of the doubt. I didn't rise to the top in five years. I worked from the bottom up and in 20 years left the industry due to a family illness. I'm fairly comfortable counting to ten :P

Dr nain with the assistant of dr Donaldson and dr hamli

I used Dr. Nain as well back in August. I was his first patient to get a leak and nearly died ( not my fault ). He seemed pretty freaked out at first especially because I was supposed to be an "easy surgery" because i am young and had a relatively low BMI. BUT then took off on vacation a couple days into my 20 day hospital stay... said he would come and check in but never did, even though he was still in the area. I did nothing wrong and almost died after his work, so I don't doubt that something didn't go right during your surgery.

Question for you though- if you asked him if he had ever had a leak before your operation, did he say he had? Just curious as to what he is telling people and wondering if there were people before me too that I wasn't told about...

Med school does not make you a God

IMO

OK I personally want to invest in your new business embroidering that on pillows in hospitals!!!! I've dealt with so many lovely docs...and so many who need your pillow LOL Just as a daily reminder :) That quote should be in stone on the outside of every medical school :)

I I almost forgot I haven't found 1 surgeon who doesn't order a barium swallow upper gi X-ray to ENSURE you don't have a leak that is standard practice in EVERY US hospital

Now you have. My surgeon doesn't do that type of leak test. They perform a leak test while you're still under in surgery.

Not true about support from her dr.'s office. Blue Point has tremendous support and follow- up with doctors nutritionists and exercise specialist. Monthly and weekly support group meetings. I DID get a leak test at hospital. And had same Dr. And no' date=' I don't punch homeless people. The info I received before and after surgery was very clear. This story doesn't add up so don't tell me to walk on by. I've read plenty of your posts when you get exercised over something.[/quote']

I rarely exercise :P

But just for a sec...maybe you could see that, given your experience with the doc, she might be misunderstanding something. Not to be mean or ugly or anything else, but she might just not get it? Hence the high cal drinks etc? It does happen. We all have different understandings and abilities right? :)

As I recall, there were 2 leak tests performed, one while I was under anesthesia, still on the OR table, and the other the following day.

I did have a considerable amt of pain, gas pain and overall weakness the first week post op.

I do have to say that I am apalled by some of the responses that members receive, especially by more seasoned members. I would never respond to people in this manner. It is not helpful, it is condescending, and mean spirited.

People join support groups, both in person and online, for 'support' not trashing, questioning, belittling and name calling.

When I posted something in a thread a while back about my nutritionist concentrating on calories rather than exercise for the majority of weight loss, another member basically called her a nut job...How is this helpful?

Needless to say, I withheld my response to this post.

I am an RN, work in a major Boston hospital, and I can say this:

If I ever spoke to a patient or a family member the way I see people treated here, I would be out of a job.

Sometimes it's best left unsaid (or typed).

Yes, we all have different levels of understanding...it's just that you get it verbally and written. But that's not the real problem. Your comment about punching homeless people was rude and uncalled for. I actually make quilts for the homeless and hand them out in cold weather along with food.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
