I don't have a cardiologist, I'm panicking?

Recommended Posts

Well I just filled out the initial medical forms...

and since I had a heart attack a little over 3 years ago

they are asking for a letter of approval from my cardiologist.

Well due to job loss first my husband than me....

we became self pay patients and my PCP took over

the care, including the tests, bloodwork, meds,

and anything else I need....

I am so scared that now I will not be able to do this.

Anyone else ever have this issue..... worried that if I get a new cardiologist

that they will not approve.

So upset.

Ask them if your Pcp will work since he has been managing your care. If not, just go get yourself a new cardiologist...I doubt they are requiring you to have a history with them. They just want them to clear you for surgery which would just take an exam and review of your records and tests...maybe updated tests if you need them. Don't be upset until you have to be! Good luck!

I can't even wrap my mind ard how much I think a cardiologist and tests will be out of pocket.... thank you for the reply, and i am trying to remain calm.... but failing.

Well call and ask them if they will take clearance from your Pcp since that is who provides care. You don't even have to go into details!

If you call right now you will know in 5 minutes whether you have to be upset or not. :)

If you had a heart attack, you should go see a cardiologist, besides it is for your well being. I understand that it may be costly, but I'm sure it will be best in the long run. Check to see if there are low cost cardiology clinics in your area. Check teaching hospitals. Good Luck!

I no longer feel that this is true.... my PCP runs the exact same tests that the cardiologist was running including ultrasounds..... and the price differences are unbelievable.... I might feel this way if I had had any angina, BP episodes or abnormal blood-work ... but I have not waiting to see what they say.....

Oh yes I am already trying to see if there is a cardiology option at a lower cost too, thanks for all the great advice everyone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
