Gastric Plication Surgery

Recommended Posts

HI All,

My name is Karen and a motn ago I underwent the Gastric Plication surgery in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. I was wondering if there are any other members that have had this procedure done. I am doing so well and have lost 34 lbs in 4 weeks and feel really good. I start eating solids tomorrow and have had very little hunger. The deisre is still there but I'm controlling it.

I have the Vertical Sleeve Gastretomy. I'm not too sure about the Plication. How does it work for you and do you know the long time result of plication? Congrats on losing 34 lbs....... :)

I don't know if there are any folks on this forum who have had plication, but there is a sister forum for that procedure: sleeveplicationtalk.com

Can someone summarize for me what this procedure (plication) is and how it differs from the sleeve?

I'm too lazy to google it, but if I remember right, (but don't quote me on this), the pilcation, I think, is when the stomach is folded/rolled into itself and therefore the stomach is then is full of excess stomach and can't hold a large amt of food?

LOL..I'm picturing drs rolling their eyes in disgust at my explanation

LOL@ms. antiband...yes, the term is "invaginated". Sounds kinky to me, I prefer "folded" :) But yes, folded into itself then sutured so it can't come unfolded. The final result looks the same as the sleeve, albeit larger due to the entire stomach still being there.

In answer to OP's question...Bos123 had plication done and is doing well :)

In the case that it's folded and sutured, is there any risk of something getting stuck in the folded stomach and needing surgery? This would have been scary for me.... My surgeons didn't even offer this option. I still would have went with the sleeve.... :)

Hi' date=' Yes its a new proceedure. Here a link for those interested in more info.

http://gastricplication.org/[/quote']

I haven't had the plication, but the surgeon is excited about me getting a plication. I am on peritoneal dialysis and this is what thinks would be safest for me. He is excited because although he has done this surgery it hasn't been done at the hospital I would go to, so once again I will be a guinea pig!

I am really glad to hear you are happy with it, I have been looking for other plication people

I was going to have the plication at first but once I researched it I found there was way too much that could go wrong and I wasn't comfortable so I got the sleeve.

Thanks for the link...I spent some time on the site...I am intrigued by this relatively new procedure, that I am surprised I had never heard of previously...that site, of course, focused mainly on the postivies of plication compared to VSG, since I think the sponsoring center is specializing in the plication procedure...I would like to find more information--especially from perhaps a neutral site that would be unbiased...if anyone finds such a site or info source, please post here....thanks

I have lost 40 lbs already, and counting! My surgery was done on January 3rd and I feel WONDERFUL! I have not had any complications and my stomach pretty much accept all kinds of food, no sickness or nausea or anything. I'm keeping away from carbs, sugars and fatty stuff to help with the weight loss but I can tolerate pretty much everything. My life has changed so much and I feel very blessed. I absolutely feel no regret about the plication surgery.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
