That leak test stuff is nasty. You might have thrown it up even without surgery. Everyone is different, hopefully you will normalize quickly. I didn't throw up at all until I started on solid foods and then it was because of too much and/or too fast.

Since you are still in the hospital, hopefully that can give you something for the nausea/vomiting.

You need to buzz the nurse and ask them for an anti-nausea med. You don't want to throw up, they don't want you to throw up!

I am day 5 post op and even last night i woke up to get throw up. It starts with dry heaves then spit and Water then a nasty yellow throw up. It's almost like a churning feeling. The first two days home from the hospital were the worst. I thought I was gonna have to go back in. It gets better though. Keep sipping water and a little Gatorade (watered down) to prevent dehydration. I actually felt better after I stopped taking the pain medication (I had liquid loritab) then after a day of being off that I stopped the nausea medicine. Another thing my doctor gave me was something to prevent esophagus spasms (dry heaving) you could look into it. The dry heaving was uncomfortable and when I took that medicine it helped. But after three days I'm no longer taking any of it and I feel much better. My stomach does get gassy which I use gas x strips for and they work wonders. I keep drinking water and tried it room temperature cause the colder it is the more it irritates. Good luck though, like i said I'm on day 5 and feel much better...much much better. Another thing is sugar free fudgsicles are my best friend, even though I can only do half at a time, they give me the feeling I'm eating something and they are refreshing to my raw throat from dry heaving and puking.

Are you taking a reflux med? Sometimes the only sign of reflux is nausea.

And - the anti-nausea med should help this. Why did you stop taking that one? Do you think it made you sicker? Maybe they can change it.

Yes I believe it made me significantly worst, I don't want to be on any meds that I don't have to. I feel much better when I don't take them. I went from vomiting or feeling like I was going to all day to now maybe once a day. My doctor says it's normal so I shouldn't be too alarmed.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
