Have anyone traveled in having surgery on the same day I will be traveling from Chicago to Tijuana and was considering having my surgery on the same day that I arrive being a nurse I thought that was pretty risky

based on other (non WLS) surgeries I've had, I think it would be a better idea to get "settled in" from the travel and give yourself at least until the next day to emotionally and physically prepare yourself...I find traveling stressful even if everything goes as planned...and just in case something doesn't go as planned (lost luggage, delayed flights), you have somewhat of a cushion if you don't schedule on the same day as travel

You would have to be NPO the day of surgery and traveling and light-headedness don't go well together.

I didn't but a gal flew in from Vegas and did it the same day.

Dr. Ponce almost always does surgery the same day you arrive!!!! This is how I want my to be done when I have my surgery!

I'm assuming the reference is to dr. ponce de leon in TJ Mexico, & not Dr. Ponce in Chatanooga.

Whether or not he "always" does surgeries the day of arrival IDK, but he did do mine that way. I was out of surgery 6hours after my plane landed in San Diego.< /p>

I was a bit surprised since I had originally been scheduled for the following day, but in hind site I feel it was better this way. Since my flight home was already scheduled, this allowed for an extra night post-op should any problems have arisen, which they did not.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
