Sleeved on 01/19/2013

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on Saturday 01/19/13 in Tijuana with Dr. Garcia. I was very impressed with the care I recieved and the cleanliness of the facility! Everyone was so nice and kind! The surgery went well, very uneventful. I did have some of the side effects. Vomiting, severe nausea and horrible gas pains in my left shoulder. I will be honest and say they are fairly selfish with the pain meds. I had to walk off my pain. Which I do understand. But I have had surgeries here and they are all about masking the pain. This is the first surgery I have had that I had to deal with it myself.

By Monday once the drain was taken out I felt SO much better. The gas pains stopped the moment the drain came out! Dr. Luna is the greatest!

On Tuesday I felt like walking around the mall for a short time.

I am having issues getting my allotted liquids down. I sip and sip but get so full I'm miserable. My incisions are healing nicely and not to sore.

Over all the experience was exciting, scary, painful. But each day I am getting better! I am down 20.8 pounds since pre op. . That helps make it all better!

Dealing with the psychological part of the head hunger has been the hardest part for me! I am told it takes about a month to retrain the brain so I am looking forward to that!

Would I do it all over again? I'm not at that stage yet but I'm sure I will be before long.

I empathize with you! I was sleeved 1/10/13 and its been a difficult journey. Some meals I am happy I have help feeling full faster and some meals I am mad I can't eat more. It's a crazy, desperate feeling where I just want normalcy.

I feel like I am not losing enough. Then one minute I think I ate too much all day and then realize I am worried about the 1/4 cup of cottage cheese I just ate and feel fine! I guilt myself for eating 5x a day when it's doctors' orders. It's a wild ride. I just want to see the scale change. Sigh. Soon I hope.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
