Living in Post Op Hell

Recommended Posts

I said it right. I was originally sleeved on december 20th 2012. About 3-4 weeks out started having major complications with swallowing and nausea and vomiting. A day after my 4th week post op my surgeon ordered an upper gi series and it showed lots of scar tissue causing a stricture between my esophagus and stomach allowing nothing to enter the sleeve. Was scheduled for a repair the following Thursday January 24th and it was worse than the surgeon expected. Turned out to be a 3 hour procedure and I woke up in horrific pain. Today I am 4 days post op from the second surgery and nausea is worse than ever and I'm dry heaving so help me god! My abdomen and left shoulder have sharp pains shooting through them. Will be meeting with surgeon again tomorrow to decide next course of action.. I cannot believe i did this to myself. Honestly, that's just where I am at with this whole situation...

Tomorrow will be 3 months post op for me and I've had a hard time. One month of nauseous and 2 weeks of on and off vomiting (currently). This is the hardest thing I have ever done, I keep telling myself to keep my eyes on the prize but honestly I regret this surgery. I have my 3 month post-op appt tomorrow, hopefully the doctor will be able to help me get through this.

Sorry to hear about your complications, Princesstia. How did the doctor feel about your prognosis moving forward after the second surgery? Are the continuing discomfort what he expected? I would stay in CLOSE contact with the doctor's office until you feel better. Daily.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
